Welcome to my page! I'm not very active these days, but feel free to leave me a message, especially if you want a hand with an Earth-science-type article. And if I don't reply... then the Wikipedia message was likely filtered in my email notifications, so Google search my name and send me an email directly ; )

About me
[edit]I am an assistant professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Minnesota and at the Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory. I research rivers, glaciers, sea-level, and water resources in the past and present (research group page), and in particular work to understand the mechanics and rates of their response to various drivers, including climate and land-use change. I also lead Northern Widget LLC, an open-source technology company that incorporates modern technology to build high-quality field instrumentation at affordable prices.

To-Do list
[edit]- Sed transport clean-up and split into sub-articles
- Exner equation: revise, fully cite, get better permissions than "Fair Use" for the image, get an assessment
- Look at Manning formula, Hack's law, Playfair's Law, WP university stuff
- Bar (river morphology) and shoal
- Tensor
- Create article on concordia diagram
- Pole shift hypothesis: define, fork off to change in obliquity and TPW, and general education of relationship to mass media / entertainment
- Figure out where to put Wave-formed ripple
- Landscape evolution model: expand, maybe try for a DYK because I don't know how that works. Run CHILD and make an animation / figure with GT's permission.
- Create articles and a main page for the Cambrian and Ordovician stratigraphy of the Upper Midwestern United States
- Flexural isostasy stuff: make some animations with my model once I publish something on it that is good enough to cite
- River needs to move into this century in terms of the geomorphology
- Would be nice to make geology a featured article; seems very hard, but WP should have core articles be featured. Will I ever get to it?
- Make something that ties together glacial-hydro-isostatic adjustment, geoid changes, and sea level, in a way that is understandable, especially with current interest and concerns in the Holocene and climate change.
- Maybe do a 1D model run of a glacier to make illustrations of its response to climate
- Mantle wedge - Expand and link to
- Flux melting
- Reference and link to slab (geology)
- Fix my goofs in Playfair's Law
- Write Colorado River Extensional Corridor
- Flat-slab subduction: yes, I opened that box
- Merges:
- Merge Bench (geology), Terrace (geology), and Marine terrace
- Corrasion = old term. Merge with abrasion (geology)
- Merge Cosmogenic radionuclide dating and Surface exposure dating
- Look at Stream power law
