Shelly Jyoti is an Indian visual artist, fashion designer, and independent curator. Her work intertwined visual art, Indian history, and societal issues, using iconography to reimagine historical events in the context of contemporary social and political concerns.
Personal life and education[edit]
Shelly Jyoti was born in 1957 in Haryana, India. She grew up in Ambala and completed her schooling from the Convert of Jesus and Mary Ambala in 1974 and moved to Chandigarh, where she graduated with an English Honor degree from Government College for Women Chandigarh in 1978 and earned her Master of Arts degree in English Literature with American Literature from Punjab University in 1980. She completed professional course in fashion design and clothing technology from National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi in 1994.[1]

Work in the Parliament of India[edit]
In 2023, Shelly Jyoti's triptych titled "Charkha - the Wheels of Swavalamban" was prominently installed at the Shilp Gallery in the new Parliament House building in New Delhi. This art piece, featuring two charkhas, symbolizes unity and broad-based participation towards India's self-reliance, echoing Gandhian ideologies.[19][20][21]
She contribution forms a part of a comprehensive thematic installation at the Shilp Gallery, showcasing works by over 350 artists from across India. This collective display is organized under eight themes, reflecting the diverse cultural tapestry of India.[22][23][24]
