List of Major League Home Run Leaders[edit]

In baseball, a home run is scored when the ball is hit a long distance from home plate where the ball goes over the fence allowing the batter to be able able to circle all the bases ending back at home plate, scoring himself and any other runner who was on base, with no errors by the defensive team on the play. The feat is typically achieved by hitting the ball over the outfield fence in fair territory without it first touching the ground, which a home run. There is also the inside-the-park home run, where the batter rounds the bases while the ball is still in play anywhere in fair territory. In Major League Baseball, a player in each league wins the home run title each season by hitting the most home runs a year. The most home runs in a single season came from Mark Mcgwire in 1998 with 70 long balls.
