From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cannabis seder or pot seder is the practice of incorporating Cannabis into the Jewish seder (Passover) observation. It may incorporate a haggadah that is part of a tradition of incorporating modern "political and social agendas" into Passover observation.

Alternative names[edit]

include "canna-seder"[1] "pot Passover Seder"[2]

Kosher status[edit]

Some authorities have determined that cannabis itself is kosher for passover, but some preparations of cannabis edibles may not be, particularly if they involve gelatin.[3][4] Ethanol extraction may also present a challenge for determination of a concentrate's status under kashrut.[5] Chaim Kanievsky, a rabbi who at the time was considered a leading legal authority in Haredi Judaism, determined in 2016 that cannabis may be consumed during Passover for medicinal purposes.[6]

Reception[edit]

Organized groups fostering the cannabis seder include Le'Or in Portland, Oregon,[7] and American Israel Cannabis Association in Denver, Colorado.[8]

The practice has been described as an effort to "synthesize [modern Jewish] experience with the contemporary zeitgeist of the moment",[9] and part of a tradition of incorporating modern "political and social agendas" into the ancient ritual.[10]
