Aaron Kim Johnston (born 1952) is a Canadian producer, director and screenwriter. As a filmmaker, he has worked in television and film.

Johnston was born in Oak Lake, Manitoba, Canada.

Career

Johnston is an award-winning filmmaker with 35 years of experience as a writer, director and producer of film and television including; feature films, long form television dramas, mini-series, children’s series, music videos, documentaries and IMAX. Johnston wrote, directed and produced the international award winning theatrical features; For The Moment starring Russell Crowe and The Last Winter, which were acquired for release by 20th Century Fox. His co-production activities include; the Gemini Award-winning (Canadian Emmy) mini-series The Arrow, 1984 Snow Angels Short (Director, Screenwriter) starring Dan Aykroyd and Christopher Plummer; and the Danish / Canadian / UK theatrical feature 'Fear X', starring John Turturro. ‘Fear X’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically in North America and Europe.

Commissioned by the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba, Kim participated in the development and implementation of the Manitoba film policy and the establishment of Manitoba Film & Music, following which he founded John Aaron Productions and John Aaron Releasing.

Kim was a member of the Canadian Film Industry Trade Delegation to Hong Kong and has been an invited guest speaker at film festivals and industry seminars, including the Beijing International Film Festival 2011.
