The 2011 North American heat wave was a significant heat wave that affected much of the United States and Canada during the Summer of 2011. The heat wave began in May and June in Texas and neighboring states, with numerous locations observing their hottest and driest such period on record. By the end of June, much of the Deep South was impacted by exceptionally severe drought conditions. During the month of July, the heat spread north and east into the northern United States and southern Canada. The heat set many records from the High Plains all the way to the East Coast of the United States. Some of the more notable records include:

• An all-time record high temperature of 108 °F (42.2 °C) at Newark, New Jersey on Friday, July 22.
• All-time record high monthly mean temperatures at Amarillo, Texas; Dalhart, Texas; Wichita Falls, Texas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, District of Columbia.
