ZAWFAN is a Malaysia nasyid group was founded in 2020 by Hafiz Tamizi, Yasir Tamizi, dan Fadzli Radzi. The group was born out of their longing for the sound created in dawah music in the 90s. Back then, most nasyid songs were produced with only vocals and percussions. The founder is also a singer of a nasyid vocal harmony group called Mirwana.

Background

[edit]

Growing up and influenced by Raihan, NadaMurni and The Zikr, nasyid songs in the 90s, for ZAWFAN nasyid songs at the time are musically moderate and minimalist, but somehow well understood and appreciated by the Malay Muslim listeners and audience.

Style and Music

[edit]

Clear straight forward lyrics, simple melody, moderate harmony and backing vocals with minimal percusssions create a nice sound that is successfully highlighted the islamic message that they want to be conveyed in the music.

ZAWFAN percussion arrangement are not limited to just East Asian percussion. Other percussions from Africa, Europe and Latin America also can be found in their tracks.

On their vocals, ZAWFAN is a trio composed of Baritone (Fadzli) alongside Tenors Hafiz and Yasir.

Eventhough according to some critics as their music is inferior and elementary like the music during in the 90s as compared to other contemporary pop music, they believe it is more effective in bringing the message of Islam across.

Backing Vocals

[edit]

In the month of Ramadan 2021, ZAWFAN has been featured as backing vocals in the song "Ramadhan Kareem" with Zul Rabbani dan Munif Hijjaz[1][2]. This is an earliest attempt made by the group to promote vocal harmony and percussion only nasyid song. It is well received and got positive feedbacks by the listeners.

Munif Hijjaz is one of the repeceted figure in Malaysia nasyid scene. The collaboration has introduced ZAWFAN in current nasyid community and paved the way for ZAWFAN to start producing their own song.
