Ricardo Arjona is a Guatemalan singer-songwriter and former basketball player and school teacher. He began his music career in 1985 at age 21, when he released Déjame Decir Que Te Amo. He rose to prominence in 1989 with his sophomore album Jesús, Verbo No Sustantivo, which garnered him media attention and moderate success. In 1993, the singer embarked on his first tour, the Animal Nocturno Tour, to promote the album of the same name, released that year.

In 2006, Arjona started the first leg of his world tour, named the Adentro Tour, to promote his tenth studio album, Adentro. The tour resumed on 2007 for a second leg, in which he visited more countries. Approximately, two million people attended his concerts throughout his world tour.[2] The tour was officially closed on 14 September 2007 on the mainland city of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, during the International Fair, in front of more than 100,000 people.[2] On the United States, the tour had an attendance of 134,000 people, grossing $8.2 million.[1]

Quinto Piso Tour was a worldwide concert tour by Guatemalan singer–songwriter Ricardo Arjona, in support of his eleventh studio album, Quinto Piso.[9] The tour visited the United States,[10] Spain,[11][12] Argentina,[13][14] Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Canada, Perú, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panamá, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay. The concert had 91 shows throughout 2009 and 19 shows in 2010 for a total of 110 shows, beginning in Mexico on March 26, 2009[15] and ending in Bolivia on June 18, 2010.

During the first North American leg of the tour, Arjona expressed interest in singing in Cuba, showing no political commitments for the matter, a clear reference of the event colombian singer Juanes was planning on that country in 2009.[16] Later that year, Arjona cancelled the planning of a concert in the country, and spoke heavily about Juanes' charity concert influence on the decision.[17] The Quinto Piso Tour has been one of the most successful tours made by a latin artist, with an attendance of more than one million people from 19 countries.[18] Also, Arjona received in 2010 a Billboard Latin Music Award for "Latin Tour of the Year".[18]

Starting on 27 January 2012 in Toluca, Mexico, Ricardo Arjona embarked on his third world tour to promote the album. The tour was announced on December 2011,[19] and is planned to visit the Americas and Europe. The show consists of four ambiences on top of a rotatory stage through which Arjona performs and each one of them are directly related to the songs being performed. Fellow Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno has appeard in every concert, only to perform "Fuiste Tú".

The tour has been widely praised by critics and fans alike. Natalie Torres from newspaper Dia a Dia commented that "Arjona knows how to handle his 'girls', with a mix of attitudes from a 'rough' male and seductive lyrics."[20] Jon Pareles from New York Times commented that "Arjona is one of Latin pop’s finest lyricists: observant, nuanced, sometimes wry, sometimes melancholy and especially fond of the play of opposites."[21] He also said that "unlike some of his fellow Latin pop stars, Mr. Arjona is no saccharine lover boy."[21]

The tour has broke many records in terms of its ticket sales, commercial gross and audience attendance. On Buenos Aires, it became the most attended show ever for any artist on the Velez Stadium, with a total attendance of more than 160,000 people on four consecutive sold out concerts.[22] In Guatemala City, Arjona became the first artist ever to have two consecutive sold out concerts at the Mateo Flores Stadium, with more than 50,000 people on both shows.[23] As of April 2012, the tour has been seen by more than 500,000 people in 8 countries.[24]
