User:Highfields/Admin coaching

Introduction

[edit]

I have devised a sort of plan to help maximize the benefits provided by coaching. This is done by dividing it into four phases, and in your case there will be an extra phase:

  • Development will deal with me giving you editing assignments to help increase experience.
  • Phase one will deal with questions designed to let me know what your best contributions are, and what your strengths and weaknesses are.
  • Phase two will be all about policy. I will ask you several series of questions dealing with policy, or questions that often come up in RFA's.
  • Phase three will have to do with Wikiphilosophy (inclusionism/deletionism, orthodoxy on Wikipedia, etc.). Wikiphilosophy questions often pop up on RFAs, and I want you to be prepared for these.
  • Phase four will be a mop up phase. We will work on whatever else you or I feel the need to cover.

After completing the four phases, I will nominate you for adminship. If I feel that more time spent in a particular phase will help you then more time will be added, but if I feel that continuing a phase won't be beneficial to you, then I will simply move on to the next.

Development

First assignment

[edit]

I would like for you to participate in 10 deletion debates located here, and provide links to where you did so. Malinaccier (talk) 15:45, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

OK, good. Malinaccier (talk) 01:46, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Checklist

[edit]

I'd like for you to fill this checklist out so that I get a better idea of what you've done.

Have you ever:

  • !voted in an RFA? - ☒N
    • OK, try to comment on every RFA from now on.
      • Ok, I'll try
  • listed a vandal at WP:AIV? -  Done
  • requested a page to WP:RPP? -  Done
  • had an editor review? -  Done Just Started
  • reviewed another editor at editor review? -  Done
  • signed up for the Signpost spamlist or otherwise read it? - ☒N
  • use automated tools/.js tools such as TW, AWB, VandalProof, etc.? -  Done Used twinkle but when I got Internet Explorer it stopped working
  • contributed to an XFD other than AFD (I'm trusting that you've been to AFD before). -  Done
  • posted or answered a question at the reference desk or help desk?  Done
  • uploaded an image? -  Done
  • welcomed a user? -  Done (I did already know them though...)
  • mediated or otherwise acted as a neutral party in a dispute? -  Done Sort of, I do a bit of mediating here but I normally find myself on one side or another
  • participated in discussion in WP:AN or WP:ANI? - ☒N Been there but never had a discussion
  • taken a look at meta philosophies? I'm interested in knowing what philosophies you believe you adhere to. -  Done I think my editing fits moderate eventualism, moderate anti-statusquoism, communalism, sort of a cross of politicism and rehabilism. I am unsure about my style when it comes to communityism and encyclopedyism. I would think I'm a WikiWarrior. I think wikipedia is naturally factionalist but I would support anti-factionalism. I would also say I support Proceduralism.

Bondpedia

[edit]

You said you are an admin there, right? Can you provide me a link to your userpage there?

  • Well I was an admin until I left so I haven't got a userpage but you can still view my contributions here.

New page patrolling

[edit]

I'd like you to do a little work on New Page patrol, learning the criteria for speedy deletion by tagging pages. The criteria for speedy deletion can be found at WP:SPEEDY, along with the templates to place at the top of pages. If you have any questions, ask below.

  • I'll start today - Highfields (talk) (contribs) 13:49, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
    • Alright! Malinaccier (talk) 14:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
      • Are you going to remain active in this, or should I archive this and quit coaching? You haven't done any new page patrolling since I suggested it. Malinaccier (talk) 22:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually I have, I have patrolled at least 5 or 6 pages since you suggested it and sorted a duplicate article issue as a result, anyway where can you find who has done what? - Highfields (talk) (contribs) 16:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I would like around 50 pages tagged with the speedy deletion template. This would show me that you have knowledge of speedy deletion policy. Malinaccier Public (talk) 16:28, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

OK I'll list them below:

  • Sorry I've been on vacation, I'm still looking, especially in new pages but all the pages warranting speedy deletion are already tagged! I'll keep trying
Got one, see Quaisha
and Neal Rooney
and 1 hundread meter
  • I'm getting goot at spotting these, you just have to persevere
Neonepetalactone

I'm really sorry that I haven't been getting on with this recently but I have made a start and I'm going to continue, thus far I have contributed a section about history to Highfields School and also adapted the same section for use on the Matlock, Derbyshire page under History of Education. I've also uploaded lots of pictures for the Matlock pages which I have also edited a little and created some redirects to it to replace red links, I'm going to continue on pages about Matlock and then move on to the James Bond articles you suggested earlier, thank you and I'm hope you haven't given up on me, Highfields (talk) (contribs) 16:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

It's no problem. Real-life issues always come first. Good work on the articles! You may consider improving them enough to become good or featured over time! Malinaccier (talk) 17:04, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit]

Can I take a moment of your time to ask: I have a group of images with permission from the copyright owner to upload them to wikipedia but no way to prove that I have permission and apparantly this is not good enough for wikipedia anyway, how can I go about uploading the images to wikipedia in the creator permission category? Highfields (talk) (contribs) 11:30, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I believe there's a guide on the subject here. (Sorry I don't have time right now to spell out the steps myself, I'm only popping online for a moment.) If you have any questions, I'll be able to answer them later today. Malinaccier (talk) 14:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
