WhyDonate was founded in 2012 by Niels Corver[2] and Daniel Boham[3] in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The first round of funding for WhyDonate was gathered through crowdfunding and 2 angel investors. In 2015, the company participated in an incubator from the ING bank and won the innovation studio pitch. Later ING bank invested in WhyDonate.

WhyDonate enables users to create fundraisers for various causes. Once created, fundraisers can be shared on social media and with WhyDonate's extensive donor network. Donations can be made through preferred payment methods, and communication between fundraisers and donors is facilitated.[4]

The platform ensures the security of donations and data through encryption and partnerships with licensed payment institutions. Its servers are optimized for various devices, including desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Key offerings include the Digital Collection Box for donation management[5], accessible to residents of the Netherlands. WhyDonate also offers a WordPress donation plugin for embedding fundraiser forms on websites, connected to the platform.
