PBISS the British International School of Samui (PBISS; Thai: โรงเรียนนานาชาติ PBISS เกาะสมุย, RTGS: Rong Rian Nana Chat PBISS Koh Samui) is an international school on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand.[1]
History of PBISS
[edit]PanyaDee - the British International School of Samui, also known as PBISS, is an international school in Thailand. PBISS was founded in 2005 to serve the needs of Samui’s local community with British-accredited education combined with Thai Heart for more than 500 students from 40 nationalities, ranging from Foundation Stage up to Advanced Level.
The core of British Education at PBISS is our Cambridge-accredited Curriculum, based on Cambridge International Standard chosen by 10,000 schools in over 160 countries. The Cambridge Curriculum is built to help children develop into adulthood prepared for the challenges of the 21ˢᵗ Century.
The Cambridge Curriculum used at PBISS has been enhanced with our STEM+ or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths approach. STEM+ is embedded into all subjects available in our curriculum to help our students better visualize and conceptualize knowledge. STEM+ also plays a major role in another key characteristic of the school. At PBISS, not only do standard activities: arts and drama, language, and sports have a STEM+ focus but our extra-curricular activities also include coding, robotics, and product design. All of these are supported by our Innovation Centre and STEM+ Ground.
Mission statement
[edit]PBISS offers an environment that allows our students to develop and mature into respectful, caring, global citizens whilst achieving their full academic potential. Working with families and the community on the island, we strive to provide the best opportunities for the children of Samui, providing a quality, international education and value for all.
Curriculum
[edit]The PBISS curriculum[2] is based around Cambridge International Standard, adapted to blend with our unique STEM+ approach to best prepare our students for the fast-changing world, especially in this 21st century. Our Cambridge x STEM+ curriculum is developed by a team of Cambridge alumni and other top university graduates, all with passion for education excellence.
While the Cambridge curriculum is what we do, STEM+ is how we do it. Our STEM+ approach, implemented through our new leadership from Cambridge, is designed to meet the ambitious goals we have for our students.
We integrate our STEM+ vision into students’ daily lives. This approach not only puts emphasis on the traditional STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) but our + also highlights the application of these elements across the curriculum through subjects such as geography, languages, music, and sports.[3]
PBISS curriculum comparison to Thai education system
[edit]Our Cambridge Curriculum taught by qualified teachers is globally recognized and flexible enough for tailoring to the local context. This flexibility allows us to conduct an international curriculum without abandoning our Thai identity. Adding our STEM+ teaching methods allows us to create a unique curriculum that delivers unmatched added value to our students.[2]
