The Fate of the Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is an American horror television series. The series features a large ensemble cast as survivors of a zombie apocalypse. These survivors must confront other human survivors who have formed groups and communities with their own sets of laws and morals, sometimes leading to open, hostile conflict between them. The series stars a large ensemble cast, with the cast members who appeared in more then half the series including; Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, alongside Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Ross Marquand, Lennie James, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The series had several major story arcs, the first being the Season 1 & Season 2 story set in Georgia. The story focused around the early days of the zombie apocalypse and how the survivors first started out. It mainly featured Lincoln as Grimes however the first two seasons also notably included Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies as Shane Walsh and Lori Grimes respectively. Jeffrey DeMunn also starred as Dale in the second season. Season 3 featured the second major story arc with The Governor, played by David Morrissey as the primary antagonist, alongside Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. Dixon’s brother, Daryl, played by Norman Reddus also starred alongside Laurie Holden as Andrea. Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan, who played Glenn Rhee and Maggie Greene respectively were also upgraded to starring this season after previously appearing in Recurring roles and Danai Gurira joined the cast as Michonne, with Cohan and Gurira remaining on the show for the rest of the series.

Season 4 featured the third story arc with the group finally arriving in Alexandria. After appearing as recurring characters since Season 1 , Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier and Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes were upgraded to starring, with Michael Cudlitz also appearing as Abraham Ford. Season 5 featured the biggest chance to the cast, with Steven Yeun and Michael Cudlitz only appearing in the season premier episodes. Meanwhile series antagonist Negan played by Jeffery Dean Morgan was finally began starring on the show after guest starring in the Season 4 finale. Lennie James also began starring as Morgan Jones after guest-starring since season 1, and Emily Kinney as Beth Greene was upgraded to starring after not appearing since the Season 4 premiere.

Season 6 was originally meant to be the final season of the series, and featured a large number of new starring characters including Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa, Josh McDermitt as Eugene, Seth Gilliam as Gabriel Stokes, Ross Marquand as Aaron and Khary Payton as Ezekiel. While Samantha Morton and Laila Robins were introduced as the seasons villains Alpha and Pamela Milton respectively. Season 6 also marked the final appearances of Gilliam, Kinney and Morton. Season 7 featured the aftermath of the War. With this being the first season not to star Melissa McBride as Carol. Additionally Andrew Lincoln, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Danai Gurira also had limited roles in the season, with Lincoln and Morgan only appearing in Volume 2. This season also marked the final appearance of Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa mid-way through the season. Season 8 featured The Commonwealth, a community home to 50,000 survivors. Previously recurring actors such as Eleanor Matsuura as Yumiko, Lauren Ridloff as Connie and Margot Bingham as Elizabeth Wild, were upgraded to Starring. While the season also marked the final appearances of both Khary Payton as Ezekiel and Laila Robins as Pamela Milton. While Season 9 marked the final season of the show, with Melissa McBride finally returning as Carol and Cailey Flemming and Michael James Shaw upgraded to starring as Judith Grimes and Mercer respectively.

The series also expanded, with several spin-offs including The Walking Dead: Dead City (2023-2025) which had 3 seasons featuring Maggie and Negan, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023), a limited series featuring Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Grimes (2023), a final conclusion to Rick’s story featuring both him and Michonne. The Walking Dead: The Commonwealth (2023-2026), a sequel show featuring an ensemble cast mainly reprising their roles from The Walking Dead. With a final conclusion film story titled The Fate of the Walking Dead set to be released on October 31, 2027.

Season Overview

Season 1 focused around the early days of the zombie apocalypse and how the survivors first started out. It mainly featured Lincoln as Grimes however the first two seasons also notably included Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies as Shane Walsh and Lori Grimes respectively.

Season 2 featured a similar cast with Jeffrey DeMunn now starring as Dale after also starring in season one. This season marked the final Starring appearance of Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh. The story resolved around the Greene Farm, a Farm and Family now allied with Grimes.

Season 3 featured the second major story arc with The Governor, played by David Morrissey as the primary antagonist, alongside Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. Dixon’s brother, Daryl, played by Norman Reddus also starred alongside Laurie Holden as Andrea. Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan, who played Glenn Rhee and Maggie Greene respectively were also upgraded to starring this season after previously appearing in Recurring roles and Danai Gurira joined the cast as Michonne. Sarah Wayne Callies also appeared in the first three episodes before Lori Grimes death in “Mother”.

The Walking Dead: Dead City

The Walking Dead: Dead City is a upcoming series featuring the characters Maggie Greene and Negan in the zombified New York City. The series will have 3 seasons.

Season One will debut on April 23, 2023. With Season Two debuting in Summer 2024 and Season Three debuting in Late 2025. Other characters from The Walking Dead will also make appearances and star in later seasons.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is a upcoming limited series featuring Norman Reddus as Daryl Dixon alongside Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier.

The limited series will debut in 2023 and will take place in Europe.

The Walking Dead: Grimes

The Walking Dead: Grimes is a upcoming limited series featuring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira as Michonne. The series will continue the story of Rick Grimes and what happened to him following his depature from the show. Norman Reddus, Lauren Cohan, Cailey Fleming and Jeffery Dean Morgan will also appear in the series, alongside Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh.

The series will film throughout 2023 and will wrap filming in Fall. With a Early 2024 release expected.

The Walking Dead: Commonwealth

The Walking Dead: Commonwealth is an upcoming series featuring an ensemble cast, mainly reprising their roles from The Walking Dead. The series will have four seasons with the first releasing in 2024. Josh McDermitt and Michael James Shaw will reprise their roles as Eugene and Michael Mercer respectively.

The Fate of the Walking Dead

The Fate of the Walking Dead is an upcoming film set to be released on October 31, 2027. The series will serve as a conclusion to The Walking Dead franchise that first began on October 31, 2010, 17 years ago. Most surviving characters from The Walking Dead will return. With the series mainly featuring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan, Lennie James as Morgan Jones and Cailey Fleming as Judith Grimes.

A series surrounding Lennie James as Morgan Jones is in early development.

  • The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor

A prequel series set at the beginning of the apocalypse is also in development. The series will feature the early days of Woodbury. David Morrissey will return as The Governor alongside Laurie Holden as Andrea and Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. All characters will return after not appearing since there respective deaths in the third season. With Danai Gurira as Michonne also rumoured to make an appearance.

  • The Walking Dead: Outbreak

A prequel series set in the first year of the outbreak. The series will reportedly be an anthology series, with storys surrounding the Atlanta group before RIck’s return, The Saviors and Alexandria. A special story will also reportedly cover the World Government and it’’s reaction to the outbreak.
