Daga Baaz (Urdu: دغاباز, romanized: dagg-aa-baaz, lit. 'Imposter') was a Pakistani television series which aired in 2020 replacing the serial Darakhshan on Hum TV. The series is directed and produced by Ibrahim Khawar and Bilal Zahid under the banner of MD Productions.
Inspired by the online multiplayer game Among Us. Ibrahim Khawar expressed his high expectations from this project in an interview.[1]
Plot
[edit]The story is hinged on the Urdu word ("گویا, goya"), an expression that cannot befittingly translate. The story revolves around a teacher named Michael (Michael Marchione) who fails to stand by his words firmly, making statements that he later on regrets. Being a 'man of regrets', he begins to fail life's test of endurance, loosing the valuable sympathy of his students.
His words influence some students more than others, thus all students are not fooled by him. He begins to take back words and statements he had made in the past more than ever, unaware of the effect of "goya", a word of direction and ease.

Production
[edit]The drama took quite a long time to make, production started before the pandemic. The drama is said to bring people together to watch a unique series that has more mysteries, crime, and dark/light thriller. It will help establish mindsets that will help defreciate, says the drama's producer/director Ibrahim Khawar. The episodes will be directed by different directors throughout because of Khawar taking on the role of a character named Zahid in the drama. It will consist of a bundle of episodes which will fit all needs.
Reception
[edit]After hearing about the release, people from all over the country have shown a very high rating to the drama and many people are excitedly waiting for its arrival after the teaser. The cast has been taken as diverse and many of the actors in the drama have not yet acted as a main cast in Pakistan before, so many people are excited to see their acting skills.
Sequel
[edit]On December 27, 2020, Ibrahim Khawar announced that another installment of Daga Baaz is in the works after the flopping of the first installment, although its date was not finalized.
Later on June 22, 2023, the discussion regarding Daga Baaz's second installment was again brought about. It was announced that Ibrahim Khawar would not return as a director if there were to be a sequel. It was further stated in another interview that the chances of remaking a drama series, based on a game that had lost its popularity, were very little.
