Stuff nobody cares about
[edit]Hi, I’m Marcus Sinn (pseudonym), and I’m perhaps best described as a strong nationalist, patriot, quasi-libertarian, and I say “quasi-libertarian” because despite having quite some leanings towards the political philosophy (rather than ideology) of libertarianism, my strong nationalistic views contrast starkly with the standard dogma of said philosophy.
When it comes to Maltese politics, I find it hard to associate myself with any of the prominent, and even the recent fringe, political parties. The Malta Labour Party is a socialist democratic party with some quasi-nationalist leanings, evidenced by its recent eurosceptic viewpoints somewhat reminiscent of Dom Mintoff’s bizarre nationalist-socialist mix (not to be confused with the German National Socialist party, of course). On the other hand, the Nationalist Party, a once great political party led by the great Enrico Mizzi, is now a pseudo-nationalist party, a self-proclaimed Christian Democratic party with clear Socialist and Liberal leanings; pathetic.
As for the fringe parties, we’ve had the Democratic Alternative (Green Party) for about two decades now, with it’s chronic declining support, and rightly so. Green Party: who cares? These days every political party seems to be environmentally conscious, so having these Green Parties is, as far as I’m concerned, utterly redundant.
During the past three years or so three parties have emerged; the first was the extremist Norman Lowell with his Pan-European movement Imperium Europa, wrongly deemed far-right by the mainstream media. I personally find it hard to label the person a right-winger, let alone a far-rightist! This eccentric, now perhaps infamous, personality is clearly not a Nationalist nor a Patriot, as he claims to be, in that he frequently dismisses Maltese culture and traditions and aims at forming some kind of United States of Europe – for White people only. This goes against the basic principles of true right-wing politics.
Then along came the pressure group/movement Alleanza Nazzjonali Repubblikana (ANR), which are kind of a Christian conservative party, having been wrongly deemed far-right (again, this is a typical case of liberal journalism tending to classify anything remotely anti-multiculturalism “far-right” – do not believe this nonsense). Their over-emphasis on Christianity and on supposed traditional values tend to push me (and a lot of other young people) away since these viewpoints tend to obscure their Nationalist, anti-multicultural, anti-liberal stance which is by far more important.
Next we have the Alpha Liberal Democratic Party led by the outspoken anti-clerical lawyer turned television personality (or is it vice-versa?) Emmy Bezzina. I tend to agree with his opposition of the Church-dominated state which ANR tends to favor – he is for the legalization of same-sex marriages, divorce, abortion and other civil rights, all of which I agree with, although I am totally against their glorification.
It seems the only solution is the creation of my own political party: an early-mid 20th Century Partit Nazzjonalista with a slight libertarian twist. I think my views are closest to those of Pim Fortuyn, who was assassinated for reasons not worth mentioning herein.
