I was S(h)ocked![edit]

Very funny, but this happened to me. I thought I could archive this saga so that maybe when I grow old on Wikipedia, I can have a look at it and have a good laugh at what constituted my single biggest shock on the pedia. You may find it amusing as well. In case you have something to share regarding this, please write to me on my talk page. Thanks and enjoy the below sequence of events.

Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked for abusing multiple accounts. I would be willing to unblock this account seeing as it has some rather impressive contributions on the grounds that you agree to no longer sock. To contest this block please place {{unblock|your reason here}} below. Tiptoety talk 20:39, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Praveen, I have left a note on WP:ANI about this block. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:15, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

{{unblock|It appears so sad for me to be even reading this. I never imagined that I would be blamed for socking! It pains me quite deeply for seeing this happen to a multiple-GA and DYK contributor like me. I vehemently deny this blame on every possible grounds and I'm sure that many of my fellow-editors would contest against this block for me. It doesn't even make sense for me to say that I would no longer sock when I never socked! So if you have deemed it fit that I have socked, then so be it. All I have to say is adieu to Wikipedia and my future contributions! Mspraveen (talk) 04:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

After looking through the contributions, I think this is a misidentification.--Stephan Schulz (talk) 07:08, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Request handled by: Stephan Schulz (talk) 07:08, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Praveen, This is exactly what I did not want to see (that you be thinking of leaving). As you can see on ANI, already 3 users (including me) have questioned the block and are requesting an unblock. I hope you would be patient to see this through and get yourself un-blocked. We need your continued contributions here. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Take a deep breath, be patient, and hold tight. Mistakes do happen, and in good faith at that. I can't imagine this won't be fixed. priyanath talk 04:46, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Ganesh and Priyanath, I sincerely appreciate your support at ANI. Although I don't deny that I'm deeply saddened to see this, I understand that mistakes can happen. But this leads me to think about any other genuine users who have began to edit and have no past contributions to back their cases up. I wonder! Thanks again Ganesh, Priyanath & Ncm Mspraveen (talk) 04:49, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi!, I just want you to know that you shouldn't leave, I understand what is liked to be blocked after you've done alot to help. You're probably angry right now on many different levels, but just stay in there and wait it out. I can see you've done alot and we (The pedia) can't lose a good editor like yourself.--WillC 04:56, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks Wrestlinglover for your kind words. Editors like you help wikipedia be such a nice place to be. Mspraveen (talk) 07:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
  • No problem, thanks.--WillC 02:39, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Like I stated in the block message above I am more than willing to unblock your account, but I would like to hear from the CheckUser first seeing as they may have made a mistake. Please bear with us. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 05:16, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the good faith unblock. I'd like to thank my fellow-editors Ncm, Ganesh and Priyanath for voicing their concerns at the ANI. It was endearing to see that my contributions have bailed me out now, and on similar lines I wonder how come the very same contributions didn't come to my rescue when my account was (being) blocked. As I said, though I was put off at the way my account was handled, I do agree with the occurrence of good faith mistakes. To ensure that my account/actions is/are not tainted any further with regards to this particular case, I'd rather wait till the CU retracts his/her findings before I actively resume my contributions. Mspraveen (talk) 07:37, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Although I do want you to resume per normal, I can appreciate why you'd rather wait till the CU modifies those findings accordingly. Technically, your IP is within that range so that may still be part of the record - the modification is likely to include a commentary with respect to conduct and contributions. While checkusers are working to sort this out, it may take some time. However, as the initial suspected-sockpuppet report has 0% to do with assessment dept. work, I want you to resume your work there as a starting point at least. To begin with, the assessment drive could use some more feedback, while a failed FA is desiring A-class status - you'll need to look through the archived FAC discussion and previous relevant discussions (that raise concerns about the article), before seeing if you can find any issues that you have with the article for yourself. Let me know of your findings via email. Ncmvocalist (talk) 09:01, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Ncm, I've not many words to thank you for your efforts to bail me out from the block. I'm back, and back for the same reasons as I was here before - that is make this a better place. The block gave me the opportunity to listen to Who Let the Dogs Out? in the meanwhile. My favorite during the past few days :) Mspraveen (talk) 14:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Lol @ Who Let the Dogs Out? :D I'm glad to see you back...and you're more welcome. ;) Ncmvocalist (talk) 00:43, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Tinu! :) Nice words from you and other editors are far more motivating than a meaningless block. So issues like this can't take me away from contributing to the pedia. But again, thank you! Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mspraveen, don't leave. I've done another CU myself and I'm sure it's not you, I'm sure the data overlap is a fluke given the way your IP is set up. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:17, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Blnguyen, thank you very much for the CU. I appreciate you doing this and removing the accusation of socking from me. Best regards, Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Praveen, A CU by Blnguyen has confirmed the block was a mistake. I hope you would get back to regular editing now. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 02:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks Ganesh. I really appreciate your kind involvement in relieving me of this block. Regards, Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  • You are very welcome! Glad to see you back. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 22:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Mspraveen, as the blocking administrator here I would like to apologize on behalf of myself the CheckUser and the community for this mistake that has caused you grief. Please understand that when I went to block you I did in fact note all of your excellent contributions to the project and as such you were the only one I blocked that I offered a second chance to (now seeing as the CU was a mistake, you can disregard that :P) Anyways, like everyone else here I hope that there are no hard feelings and that you continue to contribute to Wikipedia. Let me know if there is any other ways I can be of assistance. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 03:22, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Never mind, Tiptoety. In the future, I hope that editors with meaningful contributions are actually given the benefit of doubt first and then, their contributions are double checked in detail before taking such an action. My two cents. Thanks. Have a good day. Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi MSPraveen, Good to know you were unblocked. We havent interacted before, but like other Indian wikipedians I am aware of your good work on Wikipedia. Sorry about the trouble it caused you. Dont take it personally da! lets just say it was a software problem :-). Keep up the good work. Cheers! --Deepak D'Souza (talkcontribs) 04:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your kind words, Deepak. I certainly appreciate it :) Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I just came here to remind you that WP:PINQ is waiting for you to ask the next question. But saw all this mess. It's really discouraging to know that anyone can get blocked before checking his valuable contributions. Leave it now, Come on da, cheer up ! --gppande «talk» 09:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Hey GP, nice to see your message. Thanks for your nice words. Yeah, I was surprised to know too that previous contributions needn't discount you from getting blocked. Hmm, yeah I am dismissing it as the one of those rare vagaries of bureaucracy. Mspraveen (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I know the reason for delay. :-) --gppande «talk» 14:26, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Welcome back. Just came to know about the block on Ganesh's page. I echo GP's comments above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Welcome back and keep up your good work. You deserve a "great editors mistakenly blocked as a sockpuppet Barnstar" but I couldn't find that one. best regards, priyanath talk 15:09, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Welcome back ,buddy and best wishes to u again -- Tinu Cherian - 04:51, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh! Now I understand your stuc-in-the-traffic comment in PINQ! Anyway, it's good you have evaded the technical traffic glitch. Enjoy!!--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
