De Peyster is a hamlet in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States.
De Peyster is located at the intersection of Plimpton Rd and and Old State Road (County Road 10) and is the only significant community in the Town of De Peyster.
History
[edit]The name is derived from one of the land owners of the region, Frederic De Peyster, grandfather of John Watts de Peyster. The hamlet is occasionally referred to as "De Peyster Corners" in historical accounts [1].
The town Bell was presented by Frederic De Peyster to the Town of De Peyster on July 4th 1840. Given to the town for having the family name given to the new town in 1825.

Located in the hamlet of De Peyster, The Round Hall was built in 1896 for the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF). The building is unique in that it is supported by a single pillar placed at the center of the structure, leaving the remaining space open. The building currently contains the town of De Peyster’s historian’s office.
The hamlet boasts its own Post Office (13633), which principally services the hamlet and surrounding region. Interestingly, most of the town of De Peyster's citizens receive their mail through the Post Office located in nearby Heuvelton, NY (13654).
