{{draft|date=June 2022}} {{COI|date=June 2022}} {{Advert|date=June 2022}} ABBYY is a software company that produces intelligent document processing (IDP),[1][2][3] process mining,[4][5] document conversion, data capture, and intelligent process automation (IPA) software.[6] It is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.[7]

The company's products include ABBYY Vantage, ABBYY Timeline, and ABBYY FineReader. ABBYY partners with companies such as UiPath and Blue Prism, both robotic process automation (RPA) vendors, Alteryx, a self-service analytics vendor, Carahsoft Technology, and Kodak Alaris, which specializes in professional data capture solutions.[8][9][10]

History

[edit]

The company was founded in 1989[9][7] by Armenian-born entrepreneur David Yang, who was a student at the time.[11][12]

Since 2018, the company partnered with major RPA vendors to create the ABBYY FlexiCapture Connector.[13] This allows companies to pull content into RPA platforms or push ABBYY content into RPAautomated workflow.[13]

In 2019, the company signed a joint business relationship agreement with PwC India.[14] This allowed the accounting and advisory firm to integrate ABBYY products into its operation centers.[14]

In March 2021, ABBYY released Vantage, a low-code/no-code intelligent document processing platform.[15][9] The company also launched ABBYY Marketplace, an open marketplace where organizations can purchase reusable AI skills.[15] In May, Marlin Equity Partners became the company’s largest shareholder.[6][16]

In June 2021, ABBYY updated its cross-platform open-source machine learning library, NeoML, so that it supported the Python programming language.[17][2] Developers can use the library to build, train, and deploy machine learning models.[17] In October, ABBYY and Carahsoft Technology formed a distribution partnership that made ABBYY’s software more available in the public sector.[8] The companies’ software was adopted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),[18] and the California Department of Motor Vehicles.[8]

In March 2022, the company opened an office in Vilnius, Lithuania.[19] It was ABBYY’s 14th international office.[19]

Acquisitions

[edit]

In 2019, the company acquired TimelinePI, a process mining company.[6]

In 2020, the Singapore division of Pericom Group, a digital imaging company, was acquired.[20][21]

Products

[edit]

ABBYY Timeline - a process mining tool; it analyzes business processes and identifies which ones should be automated; continuously monitors automation updates.[22][8]

ABBYY Vantage - a low-code/no-code intelligent document processing platform.[15][9][8]

ABBYY FineReader - an optical character recognition (OCR) application that can recognize 186 languages.[23][24][25][26]
