Halal & Co. Media[edit]

Halal & Co. Media is a product marketing and management services company that focuses on products and businesses in the food industry [1]. Founded in 2011 by Salima Jivraj and her team, Halal & Co. Media focuses their services on small businesses and ventures that provide halal foods or other products. They offer a variety of services to help these businesses enter the food industry and provide further marketing management services thereafter. [2] Their business is modeled around services related to research and strategy, branding, design, and digital content, tradeshows & exhibitions, and media buying. Their research and studies on the Muslim population across Canada have since prompted articles that dive into the discussion of the halal food market, and has featured articles like Halal Consumer Feel Underserved by Food Manufacturers and Retailers, Are You Halal Ready, Understanding the Halal Grocery Shopper, Canada Improved Labeling for Halal Food Products, and Halal Infographics, all of which discuss the market related to the halal food industry.

Clients[edit]

Halal Media & Co. Media currently manages Toronto-based blog HalalFoodie, a restaurant-review blog that focuses on the halal food scene around the greater Toronto and Hamilton area[3] and Halal & Co. Media also manages Halal Food Fest Toronto, a food festival that focuses on highlighting halal restaurants and other small businesses around the GTHA, which was founded in 2013[4].

Halal Foodie[edit]

Halal Foodie was founded in 2011 by Salima Jivraj, with the purpose of highlighting local halal food restaurants accompanied by restaurant reviews and overviews. Containing over 80 halal restaurants and grocery stores, who comply with proper halal measures and standards, Halal Foodie features venues from across Toronto, with plans to spread to other Canadian cities, as stated in an interview with the Huffington Post [5]. Contributors to this website feature local bloggers such as Hafsa Pathan of 88 Creative, the Halal Food Enthusiasts, a Mississauga based food review blog, and award-winning journalist Anjum Choudhry Nayyar of Masala Mommas, amongst many others. Halal Foodie also publishes a bi-yearly lifestyle magazine, highlighting restaurants, culture, current affairs, small businesses, and food recipes [6]. Halal Foodie has been featured in the Canadian Grocer, the Ottawa Citizen[7], the National Post, Vancouver Sun, as well as in the Huffington Post.

Halal Food Fest Toronto[edit]

Hosted by the team of Halal & Co. Media, as well a team of their own, Halal Food Fest Toronto is a yearly food festival, that focuses on local halal restaurants and caterers, providing areas for food sampling, a bazaar for shopping, a kids play area, and shows & demonstrations. [8] Halal Food Fest Toronto is sponsored by Mina Halal of Maple Leaf Foods, Redpath Sugar, Dairy Goodness , and others.

The Greater Toronto Area is home to 47% of Canada's Muslim community [9], and the 2014 Halal Food Fest saw over 240,000 visitors, which was hosted at the International Centre [10]. The event has featured chefs such as Marida Mohammed, who was a former runner-up in Master Chef Canada, Toronto-based chef Aleem Syed of The Holy Grill food truck, and Toronto-based Chef Russell Auckbaraullee of Penthouse Catering.
