Tradicampo Eco Country Houses is a company with the social objective of temporary accommodation services, tourist entertainment and rural tourism. Tradicampo provides rural houses in the Nordeste district, classified as "Cottages", representing Countryside Tourism, recovered with the use of traditional resources.

Location

[edit]

The houses are located in the villages of Algarvia and S. Pedro de Nordestinho, in Nordeste district, Sao Miguel Island, Azores. The territory of this district, together with Povoação district in the south, have preserved the traditions, culture and unique natural resources, like the Azores Bullfinch (bird that exists only in this territory) and the laurel forest (living treasure of the Azores). This situation allowed in 2011/2012 the presentation of a candidature to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST), which is a tool designed, evaluated and certified by the EUROPARC Federation, which pretends to defend a style of tourism that integrates and conciliates environmental, cultural and social aspects with the economical development in protected areas, promoting the sustainable development, responding to the necessities of present generations without compromising future generations. The candidature was approved in October of 2012, under the name of Lands of Priolo. Almost half of its territory belongs to the Natural Park of Sao Miguel Island.

History

[edit]

Tradicampo Casas de Campo Tradicionais, Lda. was created in April 10, 2008 currently offering 3 Houses (4 accommodation units), classified as Cottages under the legislation in force for Countryside Tourism:

  • Tradicampo - Casa da Fonte
  • Tradicampo - Casas do Pátio
  • Tradicampo - Casa da Talha

During the recovery of the houses, there was the intention of rehabilitating the existing architecture, through the replacement of the original volumetries using traditional materials and methods. In addition, new constructions have been introduced that aimed to improve living conditions. The interventions in these new volumes can be described by clear aesthetic choices of contemporary nature. On the surrounding terrain, gardened areas were created to allow the fruition of the landscape and harmony transmitted by the rural areas. The gardens dispose of a mix of ornamental plants, some of them endemic, and fruit trees, typically used in the backyards of Azorean rural houses. Since 2012, Tradicampo has been recognized by the use of environmental practices, by the attribution of the Green Key award, aimed to highlight the sustainable and responsible operations in the tourism industry.
