Monnett Memorial M. E. Chapel (Monnett Chapel) is a historic church at 999 OH 98 in Bucyrus, Ohio. Designed in the French provincial style, the building replaced a wooden chapel built in the 1840s by the Rev. Jeremiah Crabb Monnett, an itinerant Methodist Episcopal preacher who had moved his family north from Pickaway County Ohio in 1832. Monnett's circuit included Monnett Chapel and Scioto Chapels in Bucyrus Township, Crawford County Ohio, Likens Chapel in Marion Township, Marion County Ohio and the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kirkpatrick, Ohio in Marion County's Scott Township. Following Rev. Monnett's death, he was succeeded by his son, Rev Thomas Jefferson Monnett.
In the late 1890s, members of the Monnett M. E. Chapel undertook the building of a new church to replace the aging wooden structure built in the 1840s. A committee, chaired by Miss Placidia Shaw, was formed and Columbus architect Frank Packard was engaged to design the building, in the style of a French county chapel, a nod to the Monnett family's roots in central France. Money was raised through donations and through the sale of hymnals.
Completed in 1901, the building was named Monnett Memorial M. E. Chapel. The structure is currently owned by a Monnett family trust. The building is leased to Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Monnett Memorial M. E. Chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
Reverend Jeremiah Crabb Monnett was the great grandfather of Bank of America, Los Angeles founder Orra E. Monnette.
