Mafia II: Joe's Adventures is the third of the downloadable content (DLC) available for the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh (Director's cut) and Xbox 360 versions of Mafia II, developed by 2K Czech. It was released in both the US and EU on 23 November, 2010.
Mafia II: Joe's Adventures explores the actions of Mafia II deuteragonist Joe Barbaro, an aspiring career criminal in Empire Bay and the best friend of [[Mafia II] protagonist Vito Scaletta, during the six years of Vito's incarceration. The storyline revolves around Joe's efforts to find out the truth behind Vito's incarceration and to broker a truce with the Clemente gang, one of the most powerful mob families in the city, after they order his death.
Gameplay
[edit]While Mafia II: Joe's Adventures is similar in gameplay and setting to Mafia II, it reintroduces the arcade-style gameplay from the previous two downloadable-content add-ons for Mafia II, with the player being able to initiate and complete a strand of optional side quests scattered across the city, and also features an online scoring system which awards the player a certain number of points depending on how well they performed in a mission, ranging from the amount of time remaining on the mission timer to the number of enemy NPCs they had killed. The game also allows the player to replay missions in any order to improve their score.
In addition, Mafia II: Joe's Adventures features exclusive locations for the DLC, including the cathouse, an underground subway station and a supermarket.
Plot
[edit]In February 1945, after witnessing the arrest of his best friend Vito Scaletta, Joe frantically calls Luca Gurino, a caporegime with the Clemente family, who informs him that an attendant at a gas station near Joe's apartment had reported Vito to the police. Joe catches up to the gas station attendant and finds out that one of Luca's men is due to testify against the entire Clemente gang. After tailing his handlers back to their hideout, Joe kills the informant.
Joe meets with Luca back at his bar, where he is reassured that Vito will not face any prison time. After seeing Vito sentenced to prison in court, Joe heads back to the bar and runs his mouth off at Luca, who orders his death in retaliation, forcing Joe to skip town and go into hiding.
Five years later, Joe returns to Empire Bay, where he finds work with the Falcone family. Eventually, he is introduced to Eddie Scarpa, a caporegime in the Falcone family, who offers to talk with the Clemente family about cancelling the contract they have on Joe if he keeps up the good work.
Joe is later introduced to Rocco, Carlo Falcone's underboss, who offers to personally confront Luca about the contract he took out on Joe if he does some work for him. However, Joe eventually grows suspicious of the nature of some of the jobs that Rocco has him do, and attempts to confront him about this at Eddie's strip club, the Garden of Eden. Rocco's true colours are revealed when he attempts to kill everyone in a hostile takeover of the family; however, Carlo, Eddie and Joe survive, with the latter two chasing after Rocco and his men to a construction site.
Joe, reassured by Eddie that he will sort out his problem with Luca for him, chases after Rocco to the top of the construction site and throws him off the roof, killing him, before Rocco can warn Joe about Carlo's involvement in the drug trade.
Afterwards, Carlo, Eddie and Joe head back to Luca's bar to come to a resolution over the conflict between Luca and Joe.
