With the vacant WBA, WBO, and IBO titles also on the line, the bout served as part of the undercard for Dmitry Bivol vs Gilberto Ramirez, and took place on 5 November 2022 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Background

[edit]

McGee won the vacant IBF female title in December 2019 after defeating Ana Laura Esteche via tenth-round technical knockout in New York.[1] Following a successful defence of her title, McGee was scheduled to face Victoria Bustos in a unification bout with the vacant WBO female title also on the line. However, the bout was cancelled after McGee suffered an injury during training.[2]

Cameron defeated Adriana Araújo via unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBC female title in October 2020, followed by a successful defence against Melissa Hernández in May 2021.[3] On 3 September, a four-woman light-welterweight championship tournament was announced. Billed as "Road to Undisputed", the tournament will see Cameron face off against McGee while WBA champion Kali Reis fights Jessica Camara, with the respective winners facing each other for the undisputed light-welterweight championship. Cameron vs. McGee is scheduled to take place on 30 October at The O2 Arena.[4]

Lewis Richardson is a British amateur boxer who won a silver medal at the 2022 European Championships.

Personal life

[edit]

Born in Colchester, Richardson began boxing at a young age as a means to keep fit while playing football. After winning the 2012 National School Boy Championships he decided to focus on boxing.[1] He enrolled at the Sheffield Hallam University in 2020 to study part-time for a master's degree in Sport Business Management.[2]

Boxing career

[edit]

Richardson won a bronze medal at the 2017 National Championships, losing to eventual winner and 2022 Olympic gold medalist Benjamin Whitaker.

In early 2018 Richardson was selected to box for Team GB. A few months after the selection he suffered three stress fractures in his back, leaving him out of action for most of the year. After recovering from the injury he won gold medals at the 2018 GB Championships and 2019 Olympic Test Event, securing him a reserve spot for the European Olympic Qualification Event. After team mate Sammy Lee was forced to withdraw due to injury, Richardson took his place. He won his first fight in March 2020 against Victor Yoka of France before the tournament was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When it resumed in 2021 Richardson lost to eventual Olympic silver medalist Oleksandr Khyzhniak.[3][1]

He competed at the 2021 World Championships in Belgrade, losing in his first fight against Almir Memic of Serbia.[4]

While representing England at the 2022 European Championships, Richardson defeated GB team mate Sam Hickey of Scotland in the semi-finals,[5] before losing to Gabriel Dossen of Ireland in the finals, securing himself a silver medal.[6]

He will be looking to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2024 Summer Olympics.[7]
