Tejas Deoskar (born 14 May 1983) is an Indian film director, actor, screenwriter and producer. [1]He is known for directing Madhuri Dixit's maiden Marathi film Bucket List which became a popular Marathi film in 2018. His other films as writer-director in the past are Ajinkya (2013) and Premsutra (2013). He also co-wrote a film Pratisaad (2010). His short films Kalakaar - Short film (2005), Ropta (2008), Bachhon ka khel (2008) And Sunehari Raakh (2009) participated in various film festivals around the globe. [2] He debuted as an actor in a Marathi film Baba (2019).

Early life

Deoskar was born in a Marathi family to Vijay and Prabha Deoskar His family hails from Nagpur. In his early days, he was actively involved in sports. He represented his state, "Maharashtra", two times in National roller skating championships winning Silver (1988) and Bronze (1989) medals in figure skating and road racing category respectively. He then ventured in to Basketball and quickly earned the spot as an important core player in the club team in Nagpur. Later on, he went on to play at a state level tournament in Akluj, Maharashtra.


Deoskar's parents, Vijay and Prabha, are actively involved in theater in Nagpur since five decades. His early years were spent at the rehearsal halls where his parents rehearsed and produced plays. Though he was involved only briefly in the theater that time, he believes that his creative skills are sowed and nurtured unknowingly at those rehearsals.


In the year 2000, Deoskar took admission in a bachelor of Architecture course at Nagpur. It is when he realised that his inclination is towards the story telling and directing the most. He completed is degree in Architecture in 2005 and plunged in to a full time career of film making.


He married Juilee, a landscape architect from Pune, in 2011.


Career

In the year 2006, Deoskar moved to Mumbai, hoping to cement his foot in film industry. By that time, his maiden Short film, Kalakaar - Short film (2005) was already doing rounds of international film festivals and making headlines.


Soon after stepping foot in Mumbai, Deoskar started working on a 'behind the scene' project with the producers of the acclaimed film, Shwaas (2004). He successfully completed the project and established the first connect in the film fraternity. In 2007, Deoskar bagged his first feature film as writer and director, to be produced by one of the producers of the film Shwaas (2004). After completing the script, Deoskar roped in the renowned actor Sandeep Kulkarni. Unfortunately, after shooting for a day, Deoskar and the team left the project owing to creative differences. Sandeep Kulkarni never shot for that film again.


Between 2007 to 2011, Deoskar kept on making short films. His short films were participated at various festivals, winning accolades and improving his film making skills.


In 2009, Deoskar wrote a film, Pratisaad. He was highly recommended by Sandeep Kulkarni to the director.


In 2011, Deoskar started shooting for his maiden feature film, [3]Ajinkya. He starring Sandeep Kulkarni and Kadambari Kadam. It was arguably the first Indian film, based on basketball. It released in 2013 and received a great critical response.


In 2012, Deoskar shot his second film, Premsutra. It starred many popular actors from film industry like Sandeep Kulkarni, Pallavi Subhash, Shruti Marathe, Lokesh Gupte, Shishir Sharma and Shubha Khote.


In 2017, Deoskar started his next, ambitious film, Bucket List. He successfully roped in Madhuri Dixit in the pivotal role of Madhura Sane. It created a history as Bucket List became the maiden film of Madhuri Dixit in her mother tongue, Marathi Language. It was co-produced by Blue Mustang creations, Dar Motion Pictures and Dar Horse Cinemas. It was presented by Karan Johar and distributed by Dharma Productions and AA Films. When it released in 2018, it became a milestone in the Marathi Film Industry.

In 2018, Deoskar co-wrote the Marathi Film, Baba. It was directed by a debutante, Raj Gupta. Deoskar set up the project for Raj right from writing to execution. He acted as a Creative Producer on it as well. Deepak Dobriyal was roped in to play the lead role, making it his maiden film in Marathi Language, along with a popular ensemble cast from Marathi Film Industry like Deepak Dobrial, Nandita Dhuri, Abhijit Khandkekar, Spruha Joshi, Aryan Menghji (Child Artist), Chittaranjan Giri, Shailesh Datar, Kailash Waghmare. Deoskar debuted as an actor in the film, playing a character of a police inspector. It was co-produced by Sanjay S Dutt productions and Blue Mustang Creations. The film went on to participate in various film festivals around the globe, [4]winning more than ten [5][6][7]awards. It was selected in prestigious [8][9]77 Golden Globe Awards in foreign language films category.
