Song

"C'est la vie" is a song which is performed by Algerian raï singer Khaled. It was produced by Moroccan-Swedish producer RedOne and released on Universal Music Division AZ and became a summer hit for Khaled in France for 2012.

Content[edit]

The song is bilingual, with the main text in Algerian Arabic and the refrain in French. The catchy dancing song repeats the phrase (translation in parenthesis and italics)

On va s'aimer (We shall love)
On va danser (We shall dance)
Oui c'est la vie (Yes, this is life)
Lala, lalala..

The song is considered to be a comeback for Khaled in France after three years of unsuccessful releases.[2] The comeback is also thanks to the catchy RedOne arrangement. RedOne has a shout-out of his name at the beginning of the song.

Charts[edit]

Released in July 2012, the song entered the official French Singles Chart at number 30 and later peaked at number 4. In addition to its success in France, it has become very popular throughout Belgium and Slovakia where it has reached the top 10. In 2013, the single was certified platinum by the Belgian Entertainment Association.[3] The song has also charted in the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, and Switzerland. It has also received radio airplay in French speaking Canada. specifically Quebec.C’est La Vie has sold over one million copies in the European market alone, after only two months and sold 2.2 million copies in the Middle East & North Africa and 200,000 in the USA. They sold approximately 4.6 millions worldwide. The album reached number 5 on Billboard's top France Songs. The album contains a message of tolerance, love and peace, staying away from the themes of conflict that many other artists in the Arab world explore. Khaled tries to convey what Algerian immigrants suffer in Europe throughout the album, and thinks that this is the reason behind the album's huge commercial success. C’est La Vie is Khaled’s first album after a five year break from recording during presidential elections in France and the Arab spring.
