WMF 2021 Audit Report

Old dusty archives
Modern clean archives

I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. Barack Obama

Our text should arise as a summary of the reliable sources, rather than editors first deciding what they want to say and then looking for sources. Agricolae

I am open to recall, using Whpq's wording from their RfA:
"if editors I trust and respect are telling me I should not be an admin, then I would voluntarily resign as an administrator."

April music[edit]

story · music · places

I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed), and I also made it my story. How do you like the compromise in the composer's infobox? - How do you like the statue (look up places)? - I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gerda! SilkTork (talk) 16:53, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today I see Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:45, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Raheeiejaz907[edit]

Last year, you blocked Raheeiejaz907 (talk · contribs) for socking. Raheeiejaz907 renamed the talk page of Atif ahmad8 (talk · contribs) Typically, such actions are indicative of socking as well. While the editing patterns of both users are similar, editing Pakistan military-related BLPs. I'm curious why latter wasn't also blocked based on this behavioral evidence? —Saqib (talk | contribs) 19:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the head's up, User:Saqib. It's highly likely I didn't block because I wasn't aware and so didn't look into it. The sockmaster of Raheeiejaz907 is User:Raheelejaz907 who hasn't edited in a while, so there is unlikely to be much in the way of current technical evidence. I am no longer a checkuser (I never keep those tools when I leave ArbCom) so I couldn't investigate anyway. If Atif ahmad8 is editing unproblematically, and there is no evidence of ongoing socking (that is one user editing the same material simultaneously from two or more accounts), then it's not something that would excite my interest anyway. It's the spirit/intention of the policy/guideline that I tend to follow, rather than strict wording. If Atif ahmad8 starts to edit problematically or in concert with Raheelejaz907, then please let me know, and I'll look into it. SilkTork (talk) 10:03, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But I believe Atif ahmad8 should be blocked, with the possibility of being unblocked only if they agree not to engage in sockpuppetry again. I strongly suspect that the IPs responsible for removing sourced material from this BLP yesterday belong to this Atif ahmad8. —Saqib (talk | contribs) 10:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't help you there, as I no longer have the tools to look into it. You're better off putting forward a case at WP:SPI. I don't have much experience at that sort of thing, but I do understand that they like to have evidence in the form of diffs. SilkTork (talk) 11:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lobsterthermidor part III[edit]

Hi SilkTork. Remember Lobsterthermidor (talk · contribs)? You blocked him in Feb '21 and he resurfaced as an IP last May (see here) when you re-blocked him. Well, he's been back editing since at least last October from the IPv6 range 2A00:23C6:C423:4401:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). I came across the edits by chance while doing AV work. He's staying away from his former editing areas, but there's no doubt about it: compare this (before) and this (after his edits) for example. I haven't looked at the edits in any depth, but the work looks depressingly familiar: superficially good, but bloated and probably riddled with the usual OR and unreliable sources. Worth doing anything about, do you think?  —Smalljim  22:15, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, that is clearly User:Lobsterthermidor. Blocked, and then I blocked the range. In order to discourage Lobsterthermidor from continuing this game, we should track down and remove all their recent contributions per WP:EVADE. SilkTork (talk) 08:20, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Smalljim, I've reverted the edits I spotted. Let me know if you spot any others. SilkTork (talk) 08:34, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
