University of Coral Gables aka UCG[edit]

Hi TheGables. There are various references to "The University of Coral Gables" in football media and posts after the defeat by FIU. This wasn't vandalism, it is a fact and documented online. You are in violation of wikipedia terms by falsely reporting this as such. Here are some examples of UCG being used:

Miami Hurricanes football[edit]

Since you seem interested in editing this page and recently started expanding the history, I have a recommendation. I almost fully reverted your edits to the program history section but I didn't want to revert all of your hard work. I did remove excessive usage of the "main" and "see also" templates. We don't need the season article for each season listed. That's what the purpose of the seasons article is. Another thing that is unnecessary is not only do we not need a section for each coach and we don't need a header talking about the process of that coach being hired, which is why I removed that was well. Anyways, for my actual recommendation, I recommend following the example set with Alabama's football page. Detailed history in it's own separate article with just a brief recap the program history in the main football page article. Your edits are great and on a shorter page I wouldn't say anything, but the article was already pretty long and had excessive headers before you started your work, and now it's even longer and there's an excessive amount of headers.--Rockchalk7 17 05:56, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input on it. Yes, the article is lengthy almost exclusively because it has not broken out a separate history page as the Alabama page you reference has done. That's a logical next step but further increases the complexity of reading it, including (by the way) another "main" section, which is probably why it's not been tackled to date. The organization by coach, at least in modern times (since the 1980s), seems the most sensible way to divide up eras. It makes more sense than, say, by decades, and all that should ultimately be transferred onto a new history page. The page was an absolute mess before I got engaged with it, filled with just about every problem imaginable in its formatting, writing/grammar, facts, references, and organization. It was, as I recall, tagged as too long to read even then, but I focused my edits on improving the content that existed, not on reducing it. Thanks for your input on it. I'll try to get around to addressing continued improvement on it, including breaking out a separate history page and maybe even trimming that a bit, and leaving a more abbreviated history on the main Miami Hurricanes football page at some point soon. And in regards to the Dwayne Johnson photo, I was trying to find a way to make it fit in near the "Notable in other fields section" but struggled to find a good way to do it. Once I develop the more detailed page on the program's history, we should have expanded space to include it and other photos there. I think the Pro Football Hall of Fame photos are useful because it's basically the pinnacle accomplishment in the sport and part of that section that is focused on the program's success in developing players who go on to NFL careers. Sort keys: Asterisks and lists[edit]

Hi. Just dropping a note to let you know I reverted several of your category edits. I have left an edit summary on each revert, linking to the relevant guideline. To quote the applicable section of WP:SORTKEY:

"The main article/s of a category, if existent, should get sorted with a space as key so that it/they appear(s) at the very top of the category. Example: [[Category:Example| ]] Those articles are typically homonymous or at least synonymous to their category. Furthermore, other general articles that are highly relevant to the category should be sorted with an asterisk as key so that they also appear at the top of a category but beneath the main article/s. Example: [[Category:Example|*]] Those articles are typically called "History of example", "Types of example", "List of example" or similar."

This scheme of sorting certain articles and sub-categories, such as lists, near the top is generally standard practice and fairly consistently followed, at least with country-related lists. This consistency helps both readers and editors quickly locate the list article or list category. Otherwise, keep up the good work and I appreciate your contributions.
