Dejan Popović Jekić

Dragomir Popović Jekić (Kruševac]], Serbia, 1 November 1881 - Ohrid, Serbia, 15 March 1913), better known as Vojvoda Dejan or Vojovoda Dragomir, was a Serbian chemistry professor and Chetnik Vojvode. He completed his studies in chemistry in Germany, England and Switzerland. During the Young Turk Revolution and the Bosnian crisis in 1908, he retrieted with the rest of the Chetniks from Serbia to Serbia proper. Also, his Chetnik activities took him to Kozjak (mountain) and Babuna (mountain).

Before the Balkan wars, he joined the Chetniks again, leaving behind a university career as assistant chemistry professor at the University of Belgrade, and a job as director of a match factory.

During the First Balkan War in 1912, he found himself being treated in Switzerland for tuberculosis which has been plaguing him since childhood. Immediately after the declaration of war arrived in Serbia, he gathered a cohort of 100 volunteers and became part of the Chetnik detachments under the command of Vojin Popović known as the Vojvoda Vuk. In the Battle of Kumanovo, he was seriously wounded, and his poor health began to deteriorate rapidly. He died in 1913 in the liberated city of Ohrid.^[1]
