Linking on Wikipedia

[edit]

You had some questions about removing inappropriate external links (here's the official external links policy) from an article. Let me show you how linking on Wikipedia works:

 • To make a link to another Wikipedia article, such as the one on hyperlinks, enclose the article's name in square brackets:hyperlink displays as hyperlink
 • To make a link to another WP article but display different text, separate the name and the display with a pipe character: Web links looks like Web links
 • To link to a page off Wikipedia, use single brackets around the URL: looks like [1]
 • To link off-wiki but display words instead of a number, add a space after the URL and then your text: the Internet Archive looks like the Internet Archive

So, to fix the spam on that page, I replaced Gaiam Yoga Club (looked like Gaiam Yoga Club) with Gaiam Yoga Club (looks like Gaiam Yoga Club).

Got that? You can experiment in the Wikipedia:Sandbox until it makes sense, or read the better explanation at WP:Wikitext#Links.

One more note: If you have questions for other WP editors about an article's content that readers don't need to see, use the article's talk page. If you have more questions about how WP works, leave me a message on my talk page or ask on your own page under the text "help me".

Once again, welcome to Wikipedia! You can respond underneath this comment, preceding your response with a colon (":") and auto-signing with four tildes ("~~~~") at the end. FourViolas (talk) 18:44, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
