Talkback: you've got messages!

[edit]
Hello, Ajlscl14. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Help desk.
Message added Dismas. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 02:44, 11 November 2013 (UTC) Ajlscl14 (talk) 20:12, 2 October 2016 (UTC)https://www.gov.ca.gov/news.php?id=19560 This is the info re: new law AB1687 which forbids online information cites such as Wiki & IMDB from providing birth date information, if the individual requests it.[reply]

Mind explaining why you removed sourced text from the Sondra Currie article? She was born Sandra Marie Currie in 1947 and nothing is going to change that fact. I don't know if this is Ms. Currie or an agent acting on her behalf, but there is clearly a conflict of interest and personal involvement in editing this article which is frankly suspicious. Why would you have more success here than you did at IMDb in changing the year of birth? Quis separabit? 01:03, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also to avoid playing a cat and mouse game, please be advised that removing sourced text for no reason or no valid reason will be construed as vandalism and can result in a blocking of editing privileges. Please review the info above in the welcome message. Yours, Quis separabit? 01:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ajlscl14. The reason the material was removed was because it has already appeared elsewhere online, sone from here and some from IMDb. All prose is copyright, whether it has a copyright notice in place or not. Copyright material cannot be posted on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see this policy Wikipedia:Copyrights which explains how it works. It's not appropriate for the subject of Wikipedia articles to be updating their own articles or asking other people to do so. That's because you have a conflict of interest, which makes it difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. Your best course of action is to post suggestions on the article talk page, along with reliable sources. Mediabang.us and IMDb are not considered reliable sources. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:42, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diannaa. It's not a conflict of interest if the information is factual and common knowledge. How would Dan Laske do it then? Open a conversation and let somebody else "find" the resource that supports the info? My sister, Cherie Currie's page is updated by other people and I just would like for my page to be brought up to date. I completely agree that IMDB is not a veriable source, however Wiki is using their info now. Thank you

Ajlscl14 (talk) 23:14, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Ajlscl14 Jan. 13, 2016 Hi Diannaa...How am I able to update a page...you did not answer my other message and now, my sister Marie Currie has a complete Wili page (that she has no idea where it came from) with lots of info that is not true...and no "source". How does Wiki justify that?[reply]

Sorry for not replying to your earlier message, I must have missed it somehow. You cannot copy information directly from other websites, because to do so is a copyright violation. You should not be editing your own article, because you have a conflict of interest. We can't put stuff up on the site based on "common knowledge"; we expect all additions to be sourced to reliable sources independent of the subject of the article. IMDb is not considered to be a reliable source, because it is a wiki. I have no comment on Marie's or Cherie's articles, except to say that expecting all articles on Wikipedia to be perfect is not a reasonable expectation. Conflict of interest

[edit]

What is your connection with Sondra Currie and with User:DanLaskePR? Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:42, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just add that you do not have to reveal your identification if you do not wish to, but writing about subjects where you have a conflict of interest without declaring it would be a violation of WP:COI. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:47, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
