Question concerning Igloo

Hi. Igloo works fine for me in Chrome, but when I load it using SeaMonkey, it stops after showing "- Checking browser for compatibility...". Since SeaMonkey is quite similar to FF, why doesn't Igloo work in it? Pmlineditor  12:19, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Apparently, it has to be Chrome or FF, nothing else will work with it. Quite similar isn't exactly the same, there are probably several smaller differences that make it so that you can't use it. And yes, Ale, I've become your atlk page stalker. :) Hi878 (talk) 16:16, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
I think it's because SeaMonkey isn't on the browser whitelist. Only Google Chrome and Firefox. It won't even work on Safari or IE. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 17:37, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
That could be it, too. :) Hi878 (talk) 17:40, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, igloo used browser detection, and yes, this is generally a bad thing. However, as everything needs to work in order for anything to work, this is the only feasable option. Safari won't run it at all, and IE can't handle loading diffs, making it useless in both these. I only test it with Chrome and Firefox. Ale_Jrbtalk 13:29, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Similar, but different; could you add xenowiki to the whitelist (you can remove me if you like but suggestion: whitelist all admins)? Thanks, –xenotalk 00:07, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Done. However, whitelisting all admins would be tricky, as I would have to obtain the list and import it into the database, and as most of them won't need to use it, there's probably no point. The whitelist will be switched off when I've finished a few more things, though that might be a while as I'm so busy at the moment. Ale_Jrbtalk 11:16, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Could you put the tag back where it was, the way it was? I'm trying to take over Wikipedia, and it doesn't work if people remove the tags. :) I'd really appreciate it if you would do that. Hi878 (talk) 22:47, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
I put the tag back. I would really like it if you left it there, I want to see how far this spreads. However, I can't force you to keep it, but I'd really appreciate it... Sorry if you think that I am just being annoying, that isn't quite what I intended. Hi878 (talk) 04:07, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
I've now done something that I think should make you leave the tag. I have made Igloo the official vandal-fighting tool of the Earth Cabal. :) Hi878 (talk) 04:42, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Apostrophes

After a recent bout of Igloo-ing, I think I've finally found out why I can't click on some seemingly random article names - they have apostrophes! When the article name has an apostrophe in it, it's rendered un-clickable, so I can't check out the diff. This is especially annoying when the link is red :). I'm in Firefox 3.6. In Firefox, I can't highlight and copy the article name from Igloo either if I want to go the the article on en wp, which is a setback (I can highlight and copy in Chrome). Thanks, Airplaneman 18:29, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Wow, how did I miss that? I've been noticing that problem, but I never made that connection. Apparently, you are more observant than me. :) Hi878 (talk) 18:54, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Ooops, I fixed this in the development version a long time ago, and haven't committed it yet. I'll have to do that at some point. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 20:06, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
I've also improved the key check handling somewhat, because that was annoying me as well. I don't know when they'll be committed, but I'll put a list of bug fixes on the dev page. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:09, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your input, you can see the current list of changes and fixes here. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:18, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) It currently doesn't work with Safari. It only works with Firefox and Google Chrome. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 13:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
At the moment, no, due to Safari's terrible JavaScript handling. I haven't had an aggressive go at fixing it since I first disabled the browser, though, so I might look at it in the future. Ale_Jrbtalk 16:07, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

WHERE'S THE BUG SPRAY???!!!

Not sure if this counts as a bug, but these headings are just so fun. :) Recently, I've started clicking the revert button to undo some vandalism, and after I click it, but before the reversion is made, someone else gets it, and then I rollback them, and warn them on their talk page. Would there be any way to fix this, or do I just have to click faster? Hi878 (talk) 03:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

If the revision you are viewing is not the current revision (i.e. it's already been reverted) then your reversion attempt will fail. This means that you are reverting what you see. If the version you're viewing updates just before you press Q, you will revert the wrong version. I'll consider adding a warning if the page has changed since you started viewing it, but until then you'll have to be more careful. Ale_Jrbtalk 16:01, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
But the diff changes after I press the button. And I don't use q, I use the button on the screen. I press the button, the diff changes, and it rollbacks the new diff. Hi878 (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I thought I had defined the button and shortcut behaviour to be different... perhaps that's not the case. I'll take a look at some point. Ale_Jrbtalk 22:36, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
You never defined it, I'm pretty sure. So what might the difference be? Hi878 (talk) 22:39, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Oops, I meant the same. Have you looked at the codebase? I'm pretty sure they call the same function. And it must be defined, or it wouldn't do anything. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 14:12, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Thought by "defined", you meant something else. :) Hi878 (talk) 18:05, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I couldn't reproduce this, but I've committed a change that should make double sure nothing like this happens. Hopefully. Let me know if you think you are still experiencing it (after making sure you've cleared your cache properly etc.) Ale_Jrbtalk 10:40, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

EEEEK!

Another bug. When I press command+q to try to close Firefox, it instead rolls back the edit I am viewing. I've been wondering why rollbacks happen that I didn't do. :) So that is probably something you'll want to fix rather soon-ish. Hi878 (talk) 19:54, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Just so you know, this is Hadger replying (I don't want you to think I'm Ale jrb, but you probably wouldn't think that after reading my signature). Anyway, I'm guessing that's happening because either command+q apparently is a shortcut for igloo to rollback or that since you are closing Firefox, Igloo attempts to "close" the diff by reverting it so you wouldn't be seeing the diff. I don't know much about scripts, though, so I'm probably wrong. I'm just guessing. --Hadger 20:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, yes, Q is the shortcut for rollback, so I'm not entirely sure what you expected to happen when you pressed it. =/ I suppose I'll look into blocking the shortcuts when the Ctrl/Command key is pressed, but key handling for shift/ctrl/alt is notoriously bad in all browsers... Ale_Jrbtalk 20:17, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, whatever you can do to make it so that that doesn't happen any more would be great. :) Hi878 (talk) 20:22, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
He probably expected it to close the browser, Command+Q on Mac is basically like Alt+F4 on Windows (almost because on Mac this closes all windows belonging to that application, on Windows just the currently selected one). - EdoDodo talk 11:08, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Apple should use more standard shortcuts - Windows, KDE and GNOME all use Alt-F4 to close the active window. Ale_Jrbtalk 14:26, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Where's the insecticide?

I am currently using igloo, and it keeps highlighting edits by Tommy2010 (talk · contribs) as vandalism. Is something wrong? ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 19:56, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Maybe someone reverted him by mistake. Airplaneman 21:19, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, when is the new version going to be ready? The apostrophe bug has been bugging me! (pun intended) ;-) ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 21:51, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Erm, probably several weeks. I'm extremely busy irl at the moment. People are flagged when they are reverted and warned, I'll clean that though. Ale_Jrbtalk 22:08, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) This isn't because of me, is it? :) Hi878 (talk) 22:52, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I think so. Maybe an on-wiki whitelist would be nice, or make igloo read Wikipedia:Huggle/Whitelist. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 23:17, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Or something like that. Whatever works. Hi878 (talk) 23:20, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
If I had wanted to use the Huggle whitelist, did you not consider that I would just have done so? The current 'whitelist' holds rather more than a list of names. Ale_Jrbtalk 10:22, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Igloo

Hey, I've been fighting vandalism using Huggle but I have to run it using Parallels since it isn't Mac compatible, so I would love to try Igloo out :)! - EdoDodo talk 09:58, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Igloo me too?

I am quite interested in trying Igloo, if that's OK. I see a red link igloo help on User:Ale jrb/Scripts/igloo. Is this an error, or does it mean there isn't any help yet? JamesBWatson (talk) 19:50, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm still developing it... so quite obviously no, there isn't a help file... Ale_Jrbtalk 21:52, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Settings

Loving the new revision! But... how do I save my settings once I've changed them? Airplaneman 22:28, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

You don't need to - they will save automatically. Ale_Jrbtalk 22:34, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... the default numbers kept coming back after I navigated to a different pane (on Chrome). That's fine, though. What's really bugging me is that Igloo has failed about 10 11 times in the last ten minutes, giving the notice igloo has closed verification failed - lost connection to iglooNet. I've tried both FF and Chrome. This didn't happen in the earlier builds - I'll post again if it happens tomorrow as well. Thanks, Airplaneman 03:49, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm getting the same message (see section below) every single time I try to run it – havn't even managed to see it working once. - EdoDodo talk 08:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I have fixed the settings thing - you'll need to fully clear your browser cache. Not sure how I missed it in my testing, but there we go. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 09:13, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Cool, I cleared the cache, and my settings are saved :). Igloo is still closing with the same igloo has closed verification failed - lost connection to iglooNet after about thirty seconds of Igloo-ing. Quite annoying... Airplaneman 15:48, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Same here. - EdoDodo talk 15:52, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

New bugs

I just tried the new version of igloo, and there are some new bugs. They are:

  • Sucess, building interface box remains in the middle of the screen, even while viewing a diff.
  • The settings screen won't load when I click on the gear icon.

Hopefully these bugs will be fixed soon. ~NerdyScienceDude () 23:23, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Can you look in your JavaScript error console, and let me know what you see there. Also, what browser are you using? Both of the above work for me. Ale_Jrbtalk 23:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, make sure you've completely cleared your browser cache. Ale_Jrbtalk 23:28, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I've managed to replicate this problem at least once - I'm looking into the cause. Thanks! Ale_Jrbtalk 09:17, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
This should be fixed. :) Ale_Jrbtalk 10:48, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Now it won't connect. ~NerdyScienceDude () 14:53, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Different thing entirely - that's just the server being annoying. Let me know if you get this again when you get on. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:23, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Trouble Connecting (igloo)

When I try to run igloo it does all of the startup stuff up to "Verified session. Requesting from iglooNet..." and then after a while of loading (it is transferring data) it says "igloo has closed; retrieval failed - lost connection to iglooNet". Is this problem due to my slow (128 kbps) Internet connection or have other people being experiencing similar problems? If it is due to my slow Internet connection, is there any igloo setting that I could change to make it work? (eg. extend the time it takes before the connection times out), I know that my connection isn't ideal but I have managed to use Huggle, so I don't see why this shouldn't work. - EdoDodo talk 08:36, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, the request has timed out. Because there is no way in JavaScript to know when a page or script loaded in this manner (which is th eonly way to load it) whether a page is still loading, it checks for completion periodically, and is timing out for you. At this point, it is loading the whitelist, which has about 11000 names on it. I intend to make it do it in sections, but haven't got round to it yet. I'll increase the timeout; see if that helps. Ale_Jrbtalk 09:10, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Still getting the exact same thing. - EdoDodo talk 15:52, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Igloo problems

Sorry to trouble you, and it may be that I am being really stupid, but I can't start Igloo. I have followed the instructions at User:Ale jrb/Scripts/igloo#Installation down to where it ays "click 'launch igloo'", and there I am stuck, because I can't see 'launch igloo' anywhere. Any help? JamesBWatson (talk) 13:35, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Fully clear your browser cache (e.g. in Firefox, press Ctrl-Shift-Delete, choose 'Everything' and tick 'Cache' and click 'Clear Now'). Then, go back to the igloo page and press Ctrl-F5. The installation box should turn into a 'launch igloo' button. Let me know if you're still having problems. Ale_Jrbtalk 14:31, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Are you using the new Vector skin? Ale_Jrbtalk 14:34, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
No I'm not using the new Vector skin. I cleared my browser (Firefox) cache again (I had done that last time) and went back to the igloo page, and there was the "launch igloo" link. What was different from last time I have no idea. Thanks, anyway. JamesBWatson (talk) 18:16, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Get the creepy crawlies off of me!

Igloo keeps kicking me out every thirty seconds to one minute. Could you fix this? ~NerdyScienceDude () 20:12, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Same here (see the "settings" thread above). Airplaneman 21:25, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
For me, at the moment, it's completely died - it can't display revisions for some currently unknown reason. It has duly been disabled until this is fixed. I have also added some failsafes that should help prevent it kicking you off. Ale_Jrbtalk 22:06, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm scared now... I'm used to Igloo kicking me off every few minutes... Now, when I do something else for fifteen minutes and then come back, it is still there... :) Hi878 (talk) 17:29, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

igloo developer mode

When will igloo no longer be in developer mode? I really want to freeze the vandals. ~NerdyScienceDude () 19:54, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Also, one thing that would make igloo even more awesome is iPhone OS support. ~NerdyScienceDude () 19:56, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
igloo currently breaks badly for administrators, due to malformed xml because of the revdelete update. I'm trying to fix it, but I won't re-enable it until I'm sure. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:09, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
This is now fixed. igloo is unlikely to ever work on the iPhone, because a) the interface wouldn't fit and b) iPhone has crap handling of dynamic technologies and c) I dunno how to do it anyway. Ale_Jrbtalk 11:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

It's much more reliable! Only problem: new article-space pages are now showing up with "? missing - report ?" instead of a diff. Airplaneman 21:07, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Only some of them - this is listed in the changelog for 1.0k. I'm not quite sure why these aren't working, although I haven't significantly looked into it, but before the update they would throw a JavaScript error. This is more robust, and it's possible to see which articles are causing problems. You can safely ignore these, and it should be fixed at some point in the future. Ale_Jrbtalk 21:14, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks! Airplaneman 21:15, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Now it isn't kicking me out of igloo any more. Some features that would be nice would UAA reporting and CSD tagging, which are things I've noticed Huggle could do. And if it won't work on the iPhone with a browser, how about an igloo iPhone app? ~NerdyScienceDude () 17:41, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) He's already working on the CSD tagging thing. Look here. Hi878 (talk) 17:46, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
igloo will be able to tag CSDs and do the standard reporting at some point in the future. In order to develop apps for the iPhone you need to buy access to the SDK. That is, quite frankly, absolutely disgusting and I have no intention of ever doing so, ever (unless they make it free, in which case who knows? :P). Ale_Jrbtalk 19:44, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I have this in my vector.js, and it's very useful. One problem - WP:POPUPS won't appear when I hover over a diff on contribution pages. Could you fix this problem? ~NerdyScienceDude () 19:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Ooh! I didn't know about this script! I just added it, and I like it. And I also found the status check one. Great job with all of these! I still think that Igloo is the best, though. Hi878 (talk) 22:47, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
I'll take a look at it. Ale_Jrbtalk 18:00, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

An undo feature is badly needed

I have had a few occurrences of rolling back something that is not vandalism. I then end up rolling myself back, which slaps an ugly template on my talk page. The ability to undo directly from igloo is badly needed. ~NerdyScienceDude () 19:41, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I don't know, it's pretty funny. :) Hi878 (talk) 19:47, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
That's true, and there will be one. I'll point out, however, that if you are choosing to revert edits that aren't vandalism, you need to slow down and be more careful. If you don't want igloo to warn you, then revert it from your browser? Ale_Jrbtalk 20:11, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
These reverts that aren't vandalism are either 1) accidental or 2) someone beat me and I end up clicking the revert button immediately afer it is reverted so quickly I don't notice it has already been reverted. ~NerdyScienceDude () 20:23, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it's pretty easy to do that. Some sort of thing where it asks you to continue if the page was edited in the last 4 seconds would be good. Or, just having the diff not change, and then it doesn't let you rollback the user, because someone else edited it. Would either of those be possible? Hi878 (talk) 04:45, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I am currently using Igloo. I would like to know all of the commands to help with my reverts and vandalism checks. Please leave me a {{talkback}} on my talk page. Mr. R00t Leave me a Message 22:10, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Press space to view the next diff, Q to revert, and press backspace to go back through the history. For everything else, use the buttons.
