Thanks for giving an example of a citation above. Please respond to the questions below:

  1. What is an inline citation? (info at WP:IC)
  2. Why is it important for articles to have inline citations? (info at WP:V)
  3. When should editors use inline citations?

Thanks, Z1720 (talk) 19:55, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1 An inline citation on Wikipedia is a citation in the text of a page placed by any technique that allows the reader to identify a certain piece of content with a specified credible source
2 it it required so wikipedia users can vertify the content and make sure its not original reserch
you need a inline on quotes Any statement that has been challenged or will likley be challenged
material about living persons

Alex2278 Thank you for responding to these questions. If you are unblocked, do you agree to only add or change information on Wikipedia if the information is immediately cited in the article? This will also mean that if you add any information to any article without citing it, an admin can immediately block you for violating this condition.

@Bbb23: As the blocking admin, if Alex2278 agrees to always cite information when they add it to Wikipedia, would you feel OK about unblocking Alex2278? Z1720 (talk) 00:24, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

yes Alex2278 (talk) 05:14, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i agree Alex2278 (talk) 05:15, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Z1720: I'm opposed to an unblock for several reasons. First, Alex's answers to your questions just parrot back Wikipedia policy, e.g., WP:V and WP:IC (replete with the user's typos). Second, the content of Alex's edits was suboptimal. For example, look at the edit-warring the user did at Victoria Point, Queensland on July 4, trying to add poorly written, non-noteworthy material. Another example is this edit adding "Saint stevens college is a private school with p-12 and opened in 1995 Saint stevens college needs link" to Coomera, Queensland. Third, and least important, although Alex is entitled to remove warnings from his Talk page, it is not a good sign for a new, disruptive user to do so. He started removing them from the beginning.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:41, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alex2278: Please give more detail in the responses above to give confidence to Bbb23 that you understand the material. Multiple sentences per response will help with this, and well as formatting information in your own words. Please also address the edit-warring concerns that Bbb23 brings up, and describe why you removed warnings from your talk page. Z1720 (talk) 13:46, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
,inline citations give proof that the material in an article came from credible sources. It enables readers to double-check and confirm the content's veracity.
Articles with well-sourced inline citations are seen as more reliable and trustworthy and users  are more inclined to believe the information offered if it is based on credible sources.
The CITE polocy  discourages contributors from contributing their interpretations, analyses, or previously unpublished ideas. Inline citations urge editors to depend on existing information from credible sources rather than providing their own points of view.
also By mandating inline citations, Wikipedia can limit the danger of vandalism and biassed content by tracing all revisions back to their original sources.
i am sorry for edit warring as i added small bits of information without relising that i edit warred
also i removed the warnings because i thought i could do that and move on
Alex2278Alex2278 (talk) 03:34, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond to the questions below:

  1. What is edit warring and why is it not allowed on Wikipedia? (WP:EW)
  2. Why were your edits considered edit warring?
  3. What will you do in the future to avoid this mistake in the future?

Thanks, Z1720 (talk) 18:11, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
