GAR requests

[edit]

Hi Aoba. I have been going through the GAR request backlog and noticed you have been templating a few articles. I see from your user page that you are well versed in creating good content, so would like to suggest that you conduct individual reassessments of any articles you find that do not meet the criteria. Some of the GAR requests are three years old and community reassessments can sit for a year so it is the best way to get something done on these articles. If you do want to keep adding the GAR request template it would be helpful if you outline (edit summary is fine, tags or talk page section even better) what you think the issue is. It makes it much easier to judge the articles if I have some idea what the issues are. Regards AIRcorn (talk) 00:01, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't. The process is desperately crying out for editors. I have done virtually nothing else for the week and have hardly made a dent. AIRcorn (talk) 01:56, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You write featured articles so are more than qualified. Just need to not be as strict for good articles. Have a good weekend yourself. AIRcorn (talk) 02:02, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the message. I have recently opened a GAR for the Olivia Pope article. Please let me know if I did that incorrectly. I will try to get to some of the open GARs. I need to read more about the process as I am not super familiar with it. I am always uncertain about my Wikipedia abilities. I think that I just need more confidence. Aoba47 (talk) 02:08, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I watchlisted it, but feel free to ping me if you have any questions. You just need to inform the major editors. It is usually polite to inform the GA nominator and reviewer too. You can use {{subst:GARMessage|ArticleName|page=n}} ~~~~. I usually notify wikiprojects too. The aim should be to get it up to GA standard, not to delist it. Good luck. AIRcorn (talk) 02:18, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice! Aoba47 (talk) 02:39, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Review trade?

[edit]

Hi there. I've currently got Prison education nominated for GAN. Was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing it in exchange for me reviewing one of yours. No worries if you're too busy though. Let me know. Thanks. Freikorp (talk) 02:09, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've started the review for Reed. I'll try and finish it later today. I've got a peer review open for advice on getting the prison education article to featured status. Any comments would be welcome, but don't feel obligated as I'm already very happy the article was reviewed for GA. :) Freikorp (talk) 23:05, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for the review! Take as much time as you need with it. I will definitely drop by the peer review sometime in the future to add more feedback. Good luck in advance with the FAC. I think it is great that you want to bring this subject to featured article status. Maybe, it will bring more attention to it. I would love to talk to you more about your idea of working on a journal about the topic. Aoba47 (talk) 23:58, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, I'm hoping the article will help bring more attention to it, or might influence someone important who reads it one day (I'm not sure if you checked bu the article was particularly dreadful before I started working on it [1]), it's an issue I feel particularly strongly about. My idea about a journal article is just an idea at the moment. About a week ago I was emailing an acquaintance who recently finished a PhD focusing on prison libraries, I was asking her if she had stumbled across certain information that I was after for the article and unfortunately she had not. She did, however, suggest that given the amount of research I was doing I should write a journal article on the subject of prison education. Having noticed a lack of information about both the history and cost of prison education in Australia, that would be my first choice of topic, but I don't really even know where to get started at this stage. Also I'm going away on practical placement for University for a month the week after next so I probably won't look into it until my prac is over, but it's something I will give some serious consideration to when I get the time. :) Freikorp (talk) 10:57, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've got Riot shield nominated for GA if you'd like to trade again. Just start the review if you're interested and I'll review one of yours in return, no pressure as always though. :) Freikorp (talk) 11:56, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the message, and great work with the article! I will unfortunately have to pass on this, as I do not feel that I am best-suited for this review. Good luck with it! Aoba47 (talk) 20:09, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wheels of Aurelia

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you undid my assessment of the aforementioned article as a B-Class article however after again reading the article, and re-reading the criteria for being a B-Class article, I see no points at all where the article fails to meet the criteria to be marked as a B-Class. The quality of the article while it may have some minor issues, has nothing great enough to mean that it remains at a C-Class based on the quality scale, therefore I have changed it back to B-Class based on my previous and my most recent assessment. Chieftain Tartarus (talk) 14:47, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @ChieftanTartarus: I admit that I really do not understand the scale between B-class and C-class articles. However, at the time of my reassessment of the article, I did not believe that it fulfilled the requirements for a B-class in its current state. You mention this "The quality of the article while it may have some minor issues, has nothing great enough to mean", but it was quick-failed by two different GA reviews. I will just avoid the assessment of articles in the future. Aoba47 (talk) 16:37, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Natina Reed

[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Natina Reed has been completed.

A couple of issues I found I'll draw to your attention.

In the 1997-1999 section it says: "The group recorded their eponymous debut album with producer Dallas Austin in a Miami studio, and stayed at Lenny Kravitz's home for two weeks." One of the other references in the article, (and I’m sorry I can’t remember which one, I looked at it for some other reason) said that they recorded the album over two weeks at Lenny Kravitz’s home studio. You should probably try to verify that because it makes more sense than they "stayed" there.

The 2003-2009 section opens with the definitive statement: "Blaque recorded a third album Torch with Elektra, which was never released." This is clearly the case given these sources:

https://twitter.com/officialblaque/status/826640634358407171

http://youknowigotsoul.com/interview-brandi-d-from-blaque

This source https://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/blaque/torch/ suggests there may have been a bootleg floating around.

A footnote has been added to the article saying that AllMusic claims the album was released – clearly contradicted by the sources above. Although AllMusic is supposed to be a reliable source, it’s clearly wrong here unless it is talking about the possible bootleg. All this leads up to the way I have reworded the information which takes this into account. I think the footnote needs to change to “AllMusic erroneously reported…” but I leave that up to you.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Good luck with the FAC review.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:41, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Wikipedia would not let me send this URL to you as it is banned. just add https:// in front of the rest of the URLwww.change.org/p/blaque-release-of-blaque-s-3rd-album-torch

  • @Twofingered Typist: Thank you for the copy-edit and your suggestions! I greatly appreciate all of the time that you put into this. I have had corrections based on your suggestions. Do you think that the Change.org should be added to the article? It would be really cool to see this article reach the FA level. Hopefully, it would encourage more editors to work on more obscure subject matters. Have a great rest of your day and/or night! Aoba47 (talk) 20:54, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - you're welcome, glad to help. Wikipedia has banned change.org as a source so you won't be able to add it (not really necessary that there's a petition out there to release the album, IMO) since this is an article about Reed. Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:02, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Lavi (D.Gray-man)

[edit]

I recently created the article Lavi (D.Gray-man) and already requested two copyedits to see if it can become a GA in the future. Based on your experience, could give it a look to see if it has other flaws besides prose? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 15:33, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE Requests formatting change

[edit]

Aoba47, we've stopped including double quotes for song titles at GOCE; it turns out that it doesn't correctly alphabetize titles when the automatic sorting by title is made available once the requests are archived, so the coordinators have decided that double quotes shouldn't be used. Italics for album titles and other major works of art/fiction/music are fine, but the double quotes have been dropped. I've just removed ones that you added back for a Fifth Harmony song, and wanted to let you know why so you don't try to add them back. Many thanks. No problems; I was going to move the second para of the 'Premise' section into 'Critical reception' but that goes beyond copy-editing so I'll just suggest you might consider moving it there. Good luck with your ongoing GA nomination. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 00:12, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
