I'll respond here:

A possibility is that your web browser is being sent the wrong MIME type, which is used to identify the type of data being sent by the web site to your computer. But checking this, the Wikipedia web server does not send the wrong MIME type. I can think of a couple of possibilities:-

• You use a proxy server which changes the MIME. Try work out how to disable the proxy server.
• Your web browser has somehow got strange settings. Download another web browser (you could try Opera or Firefox, or at least update your Internet Explorer version.

That was my whole point - the Puranas are not "Vedic texts". I'm not even sure what is a "Vedic text" and what is not has a proper definition, but the Puranas were written 1500-2500 years after the Vedas, so there's no way they qualify. From a google search, it appears on sify, rediff, bharatiyahockey and the-week, but there is nothing to indicate that it is in the public domain. That it is in multiple sites could be because it is owned by a press/photo agency (like PTI or Getty Images) and was bought by these sites for their use. Regards and happy new year. Aravindji, what is there to apologize ? I am not sure about the answer to your question. For people who died certain number of years ago (70 years in India's case, I think), their images are automatically in the public domain. But not sure whether this will cover recent paintings. Copyrights

Hi! Regarding the copyright status of the Sankaracharya images:

1. Yes, all images are copyrighted by default. Even if an image does not have an explicit copyright notice, by Indian government laws (and so with other countries), the image is by default copyrighted.
2. In simple terms: the meaning of "Copyright " here is that nobody can claim your image as his own.
3. For an image to be used in wikipedia, the photographer or artist has to be aware that his or her works may be used for commercial purposes and/or it can be used to make derivative works.
   • This does not mean that the image loses its copyright status. The image can still be copyrighted.
4. Indian government law states that if one has to release a copyright free image (ie. a Public-Domain), then he or she has to register with the Registrar.
5. Though the Shankacharya images are freely available, it does not mean that is is free from copyright. The cp-holder must explicitly say so.
6. No, generic art is copyrighted.
7. You'd have to email the owner to ascertain/request for the copyright status. See Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Hi, it doesn't matter if he fits in more categories. For example, Babur could be taken as an Indian king as well as a persian. However, there is a subtle difference between categories such as Tamil people, Telugu people and People of Karnataka. The first two talk more of their language rather than region where as the Karnataka category doesn't talk of language. So, I would fall under people of Karnataka, though I can't manage even a smattering of Kannada. btw, there is nothing in the Radhakrishnan article to suggest that he spent time in Karnataka. Of the people listed in Category:Telugu people, only Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, imo, falls under both categories. On an unrelated note regarding copyrights, any photograph published in Indian media 50 years back or more i considered as Public Domain. Also, Tintin's view about 70 years after death is not correct because of the following reason - Copyright is given to the photographer and not to the subject, so the copyright expires only 70 years after the photographer's death, which is very difficult to determine. --Gurubrahma 10:40, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Kirloskar

You seem to be right. From [1], it is clear that the founder's name is Laxmanrao Kashinath Kirloskar (LKK). The article Shantanu Kirloskar talks about LKK only as can be seen from the achievements and the birth-death dates. I had not started the articles but just merged duplicates. Hi Aravind, I dunno about Nath, so I cannot comment. However, WP:V needs to be adhered to - you can refer to books, magazines, newspapers etc. - need not be online sources. I think the Kirloskar issue has been resolved with my creation of Laxmanrao Kirloskar and movement of Shantanu Laxmanrao Kirloskar to S. L. Hello Aravind. The images of Indian War Heros on your userpage were downloaded from Bharat-Rakshak.com. I don't think that site is run by the Indian government. In that case those images are not in Public Domain and their usage on Wikipedia might be a copyright violation. Please check and make appropiate changes.
