Canada banner template

You had done some awesome work on the Canada talk page banner, and a new conversaton has begun about switches,... Separate rating switches Is such a good idea? Do you have time to putter on such? Should a query be put onto the technical village pump Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 01:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The other editor of the banner, Pxma is on a semi-wikibreak. Kind Regards me again SriMesh | talk 01:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Senate

Hello, the Senate website has removed Patrick Brazeau, Suzanne Fortin-Duplessis and Leo Housakos from the list of Senators. According to this, there are now three vacant seats in Quebec. However, I haven't been able to find anything via google news about this, do you know anything? -- Scorpion0422 20:04, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is odd. Is it listing them as former Senators in the history section or is it not mentioning them at all? Hopefully this will clear itself out after a while; if not we might want to email the Library of Parliament, they tend to be reasonably responsive if you tell them them that you are writing an article. In the mean time, I guess we have to match our article to our source. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 04:12, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WMCA

Hello. Are we organizing an online meeting soon? Do you know any news about WMCA and the bylaws? Thanks. Ktsquare (talk) 06:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard from Eclecticology or any of the former steering committee in a while, but it would certainly make sense to organize a meeting to discuss what we have left to do before showing the bylaws to the WMF. I guess we could just propose a date on the WMC page on meta and tell the regulars about it. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 17:15, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So how is WMCA progressing? WMCA mailing list doesn't show much. Ktsquare (talk) 20:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SOS

I need some serious help. I have a big mess in my hands. I am working on List of suspects in the Ergenekon investigation. I am documenting the arrest and release dates of the suspects and computing the time period in years & days (I wish I could do that as years, months and days).

But the problem is some people have been arrested twice (with a short period of time they were released). I want to add the two arrest times... How can I do that?

Feel free to edit {{Detainee}} for this purpose.

FLR

I have nominated List of premiers of Saskatchewan for featured list removal here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured list criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks, where editors may declare to "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Cool3 (talk) 03:56, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you go?

I feel like I usurped your position over at FTC. This was not my intention at all and I'm sorry. I started off helping you promote/fail topics when the good topics thing first passed because I felt culpable at that time for the massive increase in workload that resulted from good topics coming along. However when that subsided I continued to help out in this way, and then you stopped getting involved in WP:FT entirely. This is not a state of affairs I'm happy with, and if you'd like, I want you to take the job back - rst20xx (talk) 23:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, glad to hear it :) A few changes you should be aware of though:
  1. I started automatically archiving all failed nominations (i.e. move to "/archiveX"). Much less messy that way for if there's a subsequent re-nom.
  2. Books have come along, and now every GT/FT should get a book (yes, yet another step in the promotion procedure). By default the book should be located at Wikipedia:Books/ExampleTopicName, but {{Featured topic box}} allows you to set it to something arbitrary using the "bookname=" parameter (see e.g. here).
  3. Featured topics now require 33% and not 25% of articles to be featured. 3 topics got demoted when that change went through.
  4. There's a new rule 1.e) at WP:FT? - we made Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria/Overview topics like you wanted :)
  5. Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria/Retention has exploded a bit and needs keeping an eye on for updates. Hopefully if the topic owners are being good they should be able to manage their own topics, but most of them aren't.
  6. Things might get messy soon, the new FL criteria may mean that some topics get demoted, and will also mean it'll be harder to judge when a list needs to be made out of something :/ I think we need to ensure that, if a nominator argues that something doesn't merit a standalone list, then the contents of that non-existent list should still be included somewhere else in the topic.
Busy days! - rst20xx (talk) 00:16, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I've always got your back ;) I suspect I shall spend a lot of my time keeping an eye on Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria/Retention which has doubled in size since January :/ rst20xx (talk) 23:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Woodrow_Stanley_Lloyd_portrait.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Woodrow_Stanley_Lloyd_portrait.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris 00:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just as an FYI, while I agree with you on the 3b issue that has been brought up, there are actual concerns with the list that need addressing for it to retain its FL status. My inclination is to close as a delist if no one is going to work on those problems (and certainly you're not obligated to, but just noting anyways). — sephiroth bcr (converse) 06:28, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Arctic

I have a vague memory I may have asked you this before (apologies if I have, I've looked and can't find anything), but wanted to ask if you were interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Arctic? It's not very active, but I noticed one of your articles ending up here, and I thought based on your name that you might be interested. Carcharoth (talk) 07:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Canada - Meeting

I am glad I came across the work that you and the rest of the group have been doing. I am interested in becoming involved although I guess I should do more listening than talking at least for a while. I thought about volunteering to do the minutes, but decided I shouldn't until I have attended a couple of meetings so that I have a feel for the situation.

I am looking forward to the meeting this week. I have read through the past minutes (although not the logs) and I have subscribed to the mailing list.

I gather that the meeting is done using skype. Do I need to place a call or just have the program running and be standing by?

Cheers, Ken --KenWalker | Talk 04:27, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FT listings

Re [1] what is with this guy Axem? That's how I was told to set it up. RlevseTalk 18:17, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mind which format they are in, as long as they are consistent. It might be a good idea to start a talk page discussion on the topic. --Arctic Gnome (talkcontribs) 18:29, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Someone did, see the link on Axem's talk page. RlevseTalk 18:45, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My User page

Hello Jeffrey, how are you? I just saw that you moved in Victoria! What a nice city to live, I really like that area! Newfoundland is also a nice place though.

The reason why I'm writting you, is for tanslation matters. I'd like to refresh my user page in many languages of Wikipedias, but automatic translators are sh**. Because I'll keep the same text for other languages, I'd like to use simple english, but still, my English, even simplified, needs to be corrected or nuanced. So if you have few seconds, would you take a look on this below please ?!

In life ...
I'm French Canadian from Montreal and I participate in Wikipedia since 2003 under different IP addresses, but since November 2006, I'm using the pseudonym Antaya. Autodidact and multidisciplinary, I have studied in the fields of journalism, French literature, communications, radio broadcasting, publicity, restauration as sommelier and environmental sciences. I am a professional in many spheres, but to specify only one, I work in the wide world of radio communications and computer programming. I am also curious about history, geography, sociology, anthropology, linguistic, architecture, music, frugality and... traveling by hitchhiking! I have visited 12 countries using only my thumb! I am passionate about many subjects, but communication tools are my predilection, and that explains my interest in this encyclopedia.
In Wikipedia ...
I'm mostly involved in the French versions of WikiProjects Templates and Infoboxes, I create several hundred of all kinds. I am invested in the project Infobox V2 designed to standardize infobox a single class. I also get involved actively in the back room of Wikipedia including resolution of interwiki links, translation project, categories, graphic workshop, French American newsletter, which occupy most of my time on Wikipedia.
In other projects ...
I mainly contribute to Wikipedia, but I am also involved in Wikimedia Canada, Wikimedia Commons and Ekopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via my talk page!

Thanks a lot to take your time for redraft this "bread text". Antaya (talk) 03:52, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement. Antaya (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:40, 24 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]
