[edit]You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:
(1) I have been transparant that I am an academic in the field of Bioethics, with a specific focus on Asia (where I am based). The creation of the Wiki page "Asian Bioethics Review" is a natural part of my academic interest. (Please understand that there are lots of predatory journals, and I am attempting to make a positive distinction here, so that junior scholars and scholars from low- and middle-income countries know know where to publish) (2) The Wiki page for the Asian Bioethics Review is not finished yet. I am still in the process of adding independent and verifiable sources.
(3) I have already started contributing to other Wiki pages in the field of Bioethics (my academic speciality) and promise to continue to do so without bias (4) I do not (and will not) receive any compensation or benefit whatsoever for any of my Wiki editing
Decline reason:
You have not proposed a new username as instructed. You don't have to be specifically paid for your edits or specifically directed to edit; if you have any paid relationship with the subject of your edits, you must declare as a paid editor(such as being any sort of employee). At a minimum, you have a conflict of interest. The draft you were writing has been deleted as promotional, because it merely tells of the existence of the journal and what it does. Wikipedia articles must do more, they must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the journal, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable academic journal. Your answer suggests to me that you have goals other than improving this encyclopedia, and as such I see no benefit to removing the block and will decline your request. Please follow the instructions to make an unblock request that also proposes a new username(use the first template, not the second that you used here). 331dot (talk) 15:19, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
(1) I did not change my username because I wanted to maintain transparency! I am effectively a bioethicist in Asia; I did not wish to hide that. If I create a different username, does that change anything to the underlying issues? (2) All academics are paid employees of academic institutions. Does that mean they cannot edit wiki pages about their academic field? Yes, I work for the National University of Singapore, which indeed happens to host the Asian Bioethics Review (ABR), but so do thousands of other academics. And yes, I do know the people who run that journal, but so does almost everybody else in the field of Bioethics. You cannot expect more and better wiki pages about bioethics if you do not allow bioethicists to write about their own field of expertise. (Sorry, you are really frustrating your own cause here!)
(3) Yes, in its current state, the draft page about ABR is still mostly descriptive, because I did not have time to add more. If you unblock me, I will summarize independent and reliable sources with significant coverage, and show how it is notable. (Technical question: Is there a way I can block review until I have finished the draft?)
(4) I have already started improving other wiki pages on this encyclopedia, such as the pages of notable bioethicists Reidar Lie and Alastair Campbell. If you unblock me, I can continue that work. Another page I would like to create, for example, is one for the International Association of Bioethics. > More generally, with the rapid development of bioethics in Asia I was actually expecting Wikipedia to be interested in a page for ABR. That is why I started by creating that page, as ABR is effectively the most notable platform for bioethics in Asia.
Decline reason:
Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
- the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
- the block is no longer necessary because you
- understand what you have been blocked for,
- will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
- will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. signed, Rosguill talk 00:03, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
