[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Chef Obie Ferguson is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chef Obie Ferguson until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Notice

The article Zoe Jakes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No working or reliable citations. Of the citations provided, one was to a wordpress blog, the others were dead url's. The subject is part of a notable music group, but does not appear to be notable as a independent artist.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You said "This page should not be speedily deleted because Zoe Jakes is mentioned by name in at least 4 other published Wikepedia pages and is one of the most recognizable names in belly dancing in the entire world"--so even in your appeal, trying to prevent this from being deleted for being promotional, you were being promotional. Drmies (talk) 22:04, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am merely stating a fact. The other pages that mention her do so in a similar style of wording. If all I need to do is change the style or tone, then I can attempt to do that. It doesn't need to be removed entirely. Atsatsa (talk) 22:10, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You've been here for at least nine years--plenty of time to learn what Wikipedia is and how it works. Yes, it did need to be removed entirely since it was irredeemable promotional and lacked proper sourcing. You're this close to being blocked for promotional editing. Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

I would like to request clarification of your actions as suggested in the guide to appealing blocks. I saw and read that you selected advertising or promotion. However, I am unclear how you came to this decision when I was actively attempting to address these concerns and have no affiliation with the person in question whatsoever nor any of the acts and persons associated with them.
I even rewrote the article to be more “matter of fact” and direct statements versus what I had originally attempted. I was only blocked after asking for guidance and stating that I would respect the decision to remove the new page either way.
Thank you for your time. Atsatsa (talk) 00:55, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You dropped some of the most obvious buzzwords and yet you still wrote up something promoting the subject ("known for her impact") sourced to this page. That's promotional writing. Oh, I get 10% off on belly dance lessons? Drmies (talk) 12:46, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Known for (x) is used in Wikipedia articles. Also "Best Known for..." and "Known for their..." That is a section on many pages - "Known for..." Can you elaborate on how these are "buzzwords"? Genuine question.
The other pages linked to her that mentioned her had other sources, though I confess, I did not click them all and go down every rabbit hole. Her personal page should have been in an external link section I suppose? Most of the information on her is in the other linked Wikipedia pages. So, I concede that better resources would be better. I'm trying to improve as a whole here.
I don't belly dance. I gain nothing personally from making this page.
If you can see from my history, I have not attempted to make a page in a while. And I certainly wasn't crawling out of the woodwork to randomly be a nuisance (or be a falsely accused promoter) for some belly dancer I don't know. 192.230.188.24 (talk) 06:14, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
