License tagging for Image:Gerry Kelly.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gerry Kelly.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:06, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

"deleted" images

[edit]

I actually didn't delete them originally, User:Quadell did. After he deleted them i just removed the then-nonexistent images from the boxes. originally you used the "use for wikipedia only" license, which is not allowed. The images are fine now though, don't worry about it. Wizardman 02:48, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of William Caulfield, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.williamcaulfield.co.uk/bio2.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 16:14, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of William Caulfield

[edit]

A tag has been placed on William Caulfield, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD g12.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. — madman bum and angel 23:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: Wikipedia e-mail

[edit]

Who did you e-mail about the page? If you e-mailed permissions-en@wikimedia.org, just want for an OTRS admin to contact you about it. If you verify your licensure appropriately, then you will be allowed to re-create the page, and the OTRS admin will note your ticket number on the talk page. If you no longer have the page content at hand, request undeletion of an admin.

Cheers! — madman bum and angel 14:38, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gosh but this ain't easy. Austen Lennon page. I think I have put on links references the way that they should be but I don't know and if I have should I remove the messages at the top myself or do I get shot at dawn for doing that?. Help please. I can't even figure out how to put my signature on..... groan.

Usually we don't wait until dawn.. :) Seriously, though, the intent of the tags is to assist you (or other editors) in addition sources to help fullfill the Wikipedia guidelines, specifically WP:BIO and WP:BLP. Also, because you are the subject of the article, you need to be very careful to follow WP:COI. As you can tell from those guidelines, we take reliable sources very seriously, and require a good deal of them. Looking over the article, it seems that it is better sourced then it was before, but I think there needs to be some more information to make WP:BIO and WP:BLP happy, and to appease editors that would be concerned about the conflict of interest. If you feel that you have fulfilled what you need, then you may remove the tags, but know that other editors may replace them, or in a drastic case, nominate the page for deletion. If that happens, then your best defense will be reliable sources, and lots of them. I'll keep an eye on the page, and tidy up where I can. Oh, and to sign your comments, put four tildes in a row like this ~~~~. Good luck. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 00:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please cease editing this page, per WP:COI and WP:BIO. This isn't the place for you to post an autobiography. Michaelbusch 19:16, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted to two other people about this: I am not the Austen Lennon in the article. He is an Uncle. I have also pointed this out on the talk page and I have cited numerous references as well.Austenlennon 19:19, 18 September 2007 (UTC)austenlennon[reply]

That is still a close enough relationship that you should restrain your editing. I've flagged the article for deletion on grounds of non-notability. Admin decision now applies. Michaelbusch 19:34, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would hope that the editors will allow the rest of this gentleman's contribution to the Northern Ireland politcial scene to be allowed to be put on before they judge him on what I have put on.

About some of your edits

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. The links that I put on were NOT inappropriate external links they were links to the management companys of various artists that I took days to find and as such are important in fidning the artists contacts. The public has a right to know how to conatct these artists. Austenlennon 13:30, 26 September 2007 (UTC)austenlennon[reply]

What copyright should I use for images that the management has given me to use on Wikipedia? Austenlennon 10:12, 27 September 2007 (UTC)austenlennon[reply]

The problem is that for an image to be used on wikipedia it needs to be free enough for anyone to use it including modifications and commercial use (at least copyright wise). Do you have the right to release the image under these kind of terms?Genisock2 15:32, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK to be 100% sure tomorrow I will speak to David Hull who is her manager. Thanks for your help it is good because some editors just wipe the page or the photo and then tell you. Austenlennon 18:41, 27 September 2007 (UTC)austenlennon[reply]

I have had confirmation back from David Hull Promotions and they confirm that the images are free enough for anyone to use it including modifications and commercial use and that I Austen Lennon have the right to release them under those conditions. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Your article, 12 mile snipers, is a nearly exact copy of the first few paragraphs of the already existing article 8 (Belfast) HAA Regiment Royal Artillery, so I've redirected your article there. I suggest that if the 12 mile snipers are the same as the 8 (Belfast) HAA Regiment Royal Artillery, then you should probably edit there instead -- and if they are different, that you write something different. thanks! -- ArglebargleIV 19:40, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images and wiki commons

[edit]

If your images are fully "free to use", then think about uploading to wikicommons - see "commons" link at bottom of the main wikipage. You log in and choose a username, like on this wiki. I guess that you would need to explain how you have copyright, as people will find the pictures on the internet too. Images are easier for other language wikis to use from wikicommons, and so it is usually preferable. Once uploaded to wikicommons, you (or anyone) can link them to the English wiki (or any language wiki - Irish language say) in the same way as if they were uploaded to the English wiki. Image source problem with Image:Groomsport villiage.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Groomsport villiage.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Groomsport villiage.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Groomsport village.jpg. The copy called Image:Groomsport village.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 17:45, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Fosterandallen.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 18:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying to your email. It took me a while to figure out who you were, what image you were referring to and where you had posted that reply.

The problems here are that 1) The tag you used states that you are the copyright holder, when you obviously are not, and 2) The permission you obtained is vague and needs to be confirmed. You will find instructions with regard to #2 at WP:COPYREQ. Once the OTRS staff confirms that everything is in order, you can replace the bad image tag with one that matches the license selected by the copyright holder and does not assert that you own the image. Let me know if you have further questions on my talk page. Cheers! -- But|seriously|folks  21:04, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, that tag's not going to work. Unless the copyright holder licenses it as a free image, it can only be used pursuant to Wikipedia's non-free content policy, which prohibits most non-free images of living people. Sorry it's so complicated, but the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of making this a "free" encyclopedia makes using other people's image very challenging. -- But|seriously|folks  00:43, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Stephen_nolan.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 12:17, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:William caulfield.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:William caulfield.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion.
