John Howard Official Portrait[edit]

Hi. I've had to delete the file "John Howard Official Portrait 2007.jpg", as it appears to have been a copyright violation - there is no evidence that it originally belonged to the university, and the university page on which it appears is copyrighted. Wikipedia can only use images under fair use in very limited circumstances, and unfortunately, in almost all cases involving living people, the policy is to refrain from using anything but full free use images (public domain or full creative commons, allowing commercial use and deviates). The problem is based on Wikipedia's licensing, which is designed to allow the free reuse of Wikipedia articles of any con-commercial or commercial practises - although it may well be acceptable for Wikipedia to use a copyrighted image under the fair use provisions, it may not be possible for reuser's of Wikipedia's content to do the same thing. Thus the policies here are more restrictive than you would find on other sites.

If you need more information or any assistance, just ask. I'm always happy to help. :) And for quick overview of the issue, Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright is excellent. - Bilby (talk) 14:13, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
