Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Baptist1234, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Climate of Sydney did not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may have been removed. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations verified in reliable, reputable print or online sources or in other reliable media. Always provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! why was i banned? i was just adding more info like how storms often dissipate before they reach the coast of sydney australia . I'm sorry if i broke any rules but you could of told me first.

Accept reason:

Hi Baptist1234, you had been informed about Wikipedia's need for verifiability on 4 January 2020, as the topic of the first message on this page. That had been about Special:Diff/934002279 at Climate of Sydney, asking you to provide a reliable source for your contributions, for example using the guide at Wikipedia:Citing sources. There had been multiple warnings for other disruption afterwards. The number of concerns voiced by other users above are disproportionate to the number of edits you have made so far, 48. At some point, a block from editing became necessary to prevent further addition of unsourced content, as asking for sources alone didn't seem to have had an effect.
In Special:Diff/1040212039/1041650207, you have replaced a date (28 Nov 2018) which is verifiably cited from the source at https://web.archive.org/web/20210104052730/http://www.bom.gov.au/jsp/ncc/cdio/cvg/av?p_stn_num=066062&p_prim_element_index=0&p_comp_element_index=0&redraw=null&p_display_type=full_statistics_table&normals_years=1991-2020&tablesizebutt=normal by a date outside of the source's range. You have added the text "although thunderstorms are more common in the west" and removed a citation while replacing the text cited from it, without adding a citation for your replacement.
Where did you get the information from? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:40, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok i understand now i will only ad info when i have a proper source. thanks for letting me know

That's okay, but I'd still like to see the source for the specific statements quoted above. Where did that information come from? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 05:41, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From personal experience but now i understand that's not allowed.

Okay, no worries then. It seems to have been a genuine misunderstanding. I'll unblock later today and don't object to anyone else doing so earlier. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 11:06, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some concerns

[edit]

Whilst I understand that you didn't realise that you weren't in your user sandbox when you made these edits [1][2], you do need to be more careful. Many admins won't think twice about blocking you for that sort of edit, as they may just assume that your account was compromised (which is a rather large problem, as it makes it a lot harder to be unblocked).

Please, do not make the mistake of thinking you were in your sandbox again, especially on article related to politics (and especially Justin Trudeau[1]), because, whilst I believe you, other editors/admins might be a lot less willing to believe you.

I know it seems a bit a rough, but I might as well just say this: As a general rule, getting unblocked from a second indefinite block is much harder than from a first one.

So it really isn't something you would want to risk happening.

Enough doom and gloom though. Time for a smiley face or three. 😃😃😃

If you need any help or advice or have any questions, you probably know where to go to find it, but you can always ask at my talkpage as well. (Because I think we may be in similar time zones) Cheerio and happy editing! Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 10:18, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ Explanatory note: There is a lot of vandalism to Trudeau-related topics, and so stuff like that tends to be viewed rather dimly. So (though we'd all prefer you didn't at all) if you are going to forget that you aren't in your sandbox, make sure that the words "Justin Trudeau" aren't anywhere on the page
