Why I reverted some of your edits![edit]

Hello! Hope all is well. Thanks for being part of the Wikipedia community and taking the time to edit pages. I noticed you added a few links to different bbq related pages. Unfortunately, I had to revert some of your edits because they were both pointing to the same domain either directly or indirectly which usually means they are self promotional. In one example, you had added 6-8 hours and placed a citation for that. That is not sufficient value adding information to warrant a citation. I hope you understand! I do have questions about this. It looks like you removed sources from a magazine and what looked like a site that is often referenced by media journalists. If that’s not what the citations are for, please let me know.

And is this a new account for you? It looks like it was created 6 days ago and the other Editors I asked before adding or removing citations said they were warranted and good additions.

@Pbritti - I am out of town visiting my grandkids so I apologize if my formatting is off, but would you mind looking at this? I feel like I followed all of your advice and the advice from other editors I’ve talked to on here. And this other user, who looks like they created their account 6 days ago, is removing any of my edits and reverted a change I made of removing a citation to very low quality blog (not helpful for anyone). Welcome to Wikipedia @Bbqfanatic. If you think complaining to other users is going to help you - rather than communicating with me, then you have a long way to go. It's pretty clear you have an association to that website because you keep reverted edits and you already placed 3 links to the same website. 2 direct links and 1 was indirect. Glad to hear from you! I have been a Wikipedia user for more than 10 years and recently decided to join in on the action. Before then, I was mainly reading and soaking in all the information. I am here to clean up Wikipedia pages and edits that don't meet the standards of Wikipedia, which you can read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources.

I already managed to remove a spammy page and other spammy links, and will continue to do so.

I am not sure why the date of my account creation matters? You literally created the account the same day you started editing and placing links to articles that either belong to you or an associate. Your account was created same time or a few days before mine (I just checked) but again - how does that matter?

Please don't take my link removal as a personal attack on you. The links I removed were either pointing directly to an unreliable source or indirectly linking to other unreliable sources. The information on the citation I removed didn't add value to the pages and can be found on articles that are considered much more reliable.

I didn't set the standards for reliability on Wikipedia. All I do is enforce them. Please be aware of the links you are placing in that they add value to the page and are from reliable sources in the future.

Also, can you direct me to the talk pages where other editors gave you the green light to add those links? I would be interested in chatting with them as well.

You added back a citation to a blog that has incredibly low quality content in the gravity fed section, so I’m not understanding how that adheres.

I’ve added links to websites that I have tried to vet as reliable. Can you please tell me which site(s) you’re referring to that are low quality?

And in reference to your comment about linking to an article of mine or an associate, I do not have any articles or associates. I’m a retired chemistry teacher and wouldn’t know the last thing about creating a website and the only associate I have is my dog Alvin.

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Good afternoon MrOllie,

Can you tell me which link I used that wasn't appropriate? I am trying to source good links to help the community and I have read through most of the hyperlinks you have attached here. Is it the one I linked to Blackstone about their flattop grills being able to do hibachi cooking? They're the most popular maker of outdoor gas griddles, so I thought that was appropriate, but I can see how linking to their blog may seem to be promotional. I will avoid that going forward. If it was a different link, please advise.

I am currently going to sources I know and can trust. For every website I have sourced, I have checked for at least 3 widely-known sources that have referenced them in an informational manner before linking to them here. I am thankful these carry a nofollow attribute as you've mentioned so that I'm not hurting anything.

Most of your links aren't appropriate, including healthline, blackstone, and 'thegrillingdad.com' We don't use blogs or vendor websites as sources (see WP:RS). Nutrition or other health claims have even higher standards, which you can find at WP:MEDRS. If those aren't appropriate, I guess I will need to find a new retirement hobby, MrOllie. I thought I was helping and thought those were reliable sources. I didn't realize Healthline lacked reliability. Thegrillingdad was all over the local news and had a show on the Food Network that we used to watch so I also didn't realize that lacked reliability. Blackstone makes sense. I see where I messed up there.

Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. I forgot that one site you said isn’t appropriate. My mistake; I’ve added it to my personal blacklist. It pops up when I look for sources about pellet grills being pellet smokers. The section that is currently live has nothing to do with pellet grills so I was trying to make it more helpful.
