Bristol
[edit]Hi Birdkendall, why do you keep adding the category Musical groups from Bristol to a bunch of different artists that are not even from Bristol? You did this with Snow Ghosts and Meadowlark (band). Please explain. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 01:32, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Meadowlark are a Bristol based band, a quick Google search of the words "Meadowlark", "band" and "Bristol" should bring up their social media pages, displaying that they now consider themselves to be 'from' Bristol. Some members of Snow Ghosts are from Bristol, perhaps not enough members to constitute them as being from Bristol? Then again, if a few members of the band were London based I'm sure there'd be less objections to them being categorised as 'from London', as I've witnessed numerous times on here. Hope this helps! Birdkendall (talk) 19:44, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- It helps explain your reasoning, but it doesn't justify the categorization. Social media pages are not considered to be reliable sources on Wikipedia, so unless you can provide a non-primary source that mentions that the band is from Bristol, meaning not that some of its members originate there but that the band has its foundational origins there, then you need to stop adding that category. Thank you. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 05:18, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- So a band won't know where they're from to state such on their own social media? I stated a magazine source but it's been deleted? It's a Bristol based band which means they're from Bristol. I think you're confusing the 'origin' aspect with being from somewhere. If a group live and work out of a particular place that's where they're from. It would be ridiculous if only a place in which they initially got together counted as being where they're from. What if they were only there for a week? What about solo artists? What counts as their foundational origin? Where they were living when they first started making music? What if they've lived in another place for decades and are only associated with that place? Birdkendall (talk) 01:31, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- How about this link? Shall I put this one or is that going to get deleted as well? https://musomuso.com/introducing/introducing-bristol-based-dynamic-duo-meadowlark
- See how it says 'BRISTOL BASED'? Birdkendall (talk) 01:42, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- You don't need to get sarcastic, just look up the rules on using social media as sources: WP:Reliable sources.Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 02:25, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
