Categories

Hi and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed you have taken an interest in adding categories to articles tagged with the {{uncategorized}} template. While I commend your enthusiasm, I don't believe you quite understand the grasp of how categorization works yet. Examples:

Albert L. Allred – you added the categories Category:American chemists, Category:Chemists, and Category:Lists of people from North Carolina. Because American chemists is a subcategory under Category:Chemists by nationality, which in turn is a subcategory of Category:Chemists, you don't need to categorize the article in both. Also, only list articles go into categories about lists. Allred isn't a list of people from North Carolina but you could have placed him under Category:Scientists from North Carolina.
Skyfire (TV series) – you added the categories Category:Television shows and Category:Television. Again, the Television shows category is a subcategory of Category:Television programming, which in turn is a subcategory of Category:Television, so there is no need to put an article about a TV show in both. Also, if you take a look at Category:Television shows, you'll see many more subcategories in which this article would be better suited. It says it is an Indian sci-fi series, so Category:Indian science fiction television series appears to be a far more appropriate category. Finally, you also placed a bar after Television shows like this [[Category:Television shows| ]]. Do you what the purpose is for doing that? Because it doesn't make sense to do so.

I would suggest you read up a bit more on how categories work before continuing, and there are lots of other editors here who focus on maintaining categories who will be glad to help you. Two places to start are Wikipedia:Categorization and Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories. Happy editing and thank you for your contributions. Thank you, and I agree, but you don't want to put an article about a music album in a category for music groups, like you did with Shadow of Fear (album). It's best not to guess, but to take a look at how similar articles are categorized and what other articles are in categories that you think may be appropriate. Good luck.
