Roots music invitation

[edit]
You are cordially invited to participate in WikiProject Roots music

The goal of WikiProject Roots music is to improve the quality and quantity of information about Roots, Folk, and Traditional music available on Wikipedia. WikiProject Roots music as a group does not prefer any particular tradition of Roots, Folk, or Traditional music, but prefers that all traditions are fairly and accurately represented.

I thought with your edits of the folk/traditional music related articles that you might be interested in this project.

-- TimNelson 11:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you sign up for participation in a WikiProject, there is no real expectation. I've seen people sign up for projects that they then have no observable relation to. My only expectation would be that you would continue to occasionally edit folk-related pages that you're particularly interested in (which would require no change in your existing behaviour). The other thing which I think would be appropriate (but not required) is if you were to add the project's talk page to your watchlist, so that if someone posts something there, you could deal with it.
Of course, if you wanted to take some items from the todo list on board (or expand the todo list with items of your own) or whatever, that would naturally be welcome too. Your level of involvement is pretty much up to you.

Two different "Dowie Dens" articles exist.

[edit]

Greetings Bluewave

I had previously added some performance information to an article titled "The Dowie Dens of Yarrow" and have just discovered the far more complete article named The Dowie Dens o Yarrow. I've moved the performance information. The other article may need to be mined for anything worthwhile and then deleted and/or turned into a redirect page (I'm not certain how to go about deletion). It contains full English and Scottish dialect lyrics but I question whether these are necessary to the article. I'd appreciate it if you'd have a look at the other article and see what you think. Thanks. -- Rydra Wong 01:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You say you obtained permission for this image in an email exchange; do you still have that email? It would be useful for verifying the permission when you aren't around. — Carl (CBM · talk) 20:09, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Her and she

[edit]

The use of these words are generally avoided and the surname is generally used primarily. For example when She would start a sentence the surname would generally be the start of the sentance, she is generally used in the middle of sentences.--Lucy-marie 16:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Well, the sharp and personally-directed comments were annoying, but there was no point in responding in kind as that would just divert attention away from the main issue. Anyway, it was heartening that a few editors noted the nature of that person's posts and gave him appropriate warnings. — Cheers, JackLee talk contribs count 23:27, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet Child

[edit]

I changed the album length to 84:13 mins because that's was the length when I played the album in winamp. I could be in error, or maybe I ripped the 2 albums wrong. But all the tracktimes in my playlist corresponded (within a second or two) to the track lengths in the tracklisting on wikipedia, so I'm pretty sure 84 minutes is more right than 76 minutes.Alcuin (talk) 22:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, I figured out the difference. The CD re=release contains more chatter between the songs (on the live album) than the original release did. Thus, both the 84 minute running time and the times listed on the tracklisting reflect the CD times, not the original LP times. The original track lengths can be found at the AMG site. I would go ahead and amend the article to show both, but I'm too lazy (at least for the moment). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alcuin (talkcontribs) 23:16, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:User vdg

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:User vdg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Fair use rationale for Image:Final_programme.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Final_programme.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 03:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your comments on "Prime Minister of the United Kingdom"

Thanks for your comments on my recent edits to this article. I was thinking myself that my contribution was too wordy and not in the "encyclopedic" style.. I did some editing this morning. Hanged, drawn and quartered - date unlinking

[edit]

I don't intent to get into a battle about this, but the question of date autoformatting has been extensively discussed at WP:MOSNUM and the outcome was that autoformating is now deprecated (see WP:MOSNUM#Date autoformatting. The principal reason for deprecation is that it provides a benefit to only those readers who are registered and have set their preferences - probably less than 1% of readers. For everyone else it just produces some valueless and distracting blue links. Colonies Chris (talk) 16:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Pepys, plague, and the Great Fire of London

[edit]

Pepys was a self-centered man, but I'm surprised you would think his kidney ailment was more important to him than the destruction of London by both pestilence and conflagration. His Diary makes it clear he was as disturbed as any sensible person would be by those disasters. So, why were two of the major public events in his lifetime to be deemed less important than his kidney problems? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dugong.is.good.tucker (talkcontribs) 20:01, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
