User talk:Bvcamp
Hello, Bvcamp. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:53, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

- There are several issues here. First of all, to prevent you from being impersonated by random people on the internet, we need confirmation that you indeed are Benjamin Van Camp. You can email info-enwikimedia.org with proof of identity; compare WP:IMPERSONATE. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I'm sure you'll appreciate that it's meant to protect you.
- That said, being Benjamin Van Camp doesn't give you any special rights regarding our article about you. The article's content must be based on reliable published sources. Your changes to the article removed the few sources we had and provided no sources of your own. For example, maybe that you were made a baron was reported in the newspapers or some official gazette? That might be a useful source. See WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes. If you cannot provide sources for the content you'd like to see added, then you cannot add that content.
- On a more general note, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and an encyclopedia article isn't just a CV. Please don't treat it as one.
- Finally and even more generally, Wikipedia strongly discourages editing an article about oneself due to the inherent conflict of interest; see WP:Autobiography. It's considered best practice to propose changes to an article about oneself (or to any other article where one has a conflict of interest) on that article's talk page (here, Talk:Benjamin Van Camp) and to leave it to uninvolved editors to assess whether the proposed change improves the article and to implement it. You can add the code
