Welcome![edit]

It's good to see your contributions relating to Naval Aviation. You may need to sharpen up your skills in providing references. The one on Modex gets an error when I try to load it. It might be a site that you have special access to. I'd be glad to help you acquire your Wikipedia skills, assuming you need and want to do so. Lou Sander (talk) 15:50, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I would appreciate help in adding references. The particular one you tried is not mine, it was on the page prior to my edits. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:CAPT_USN(ret)&action=edit&section=1#

Here's the tool I use in creating references. Others do it differently, but this has worked very well for me: https://tools.wmflabs.org/makeref/ Lou Sander (talk) 06:39, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it's good practice to sign all your posts on talk pages (bur not in articles). You do it by typing four tildes. Lou Sander (talk) 06:39, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

US Navy squadrons[edit]

Please stop making changes to the List of inactive United States Navy aircraft squadrons from the time-based definitions e.g. VF-1 (1943-5) to VF-1 (3rd), it is not helpful and not in line with WP:MOS. The listings are already ordered chronologically and so it adds nothing. Mztourist (talk) 09:18, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The definitive reference for the history of VF designations is found on the Naval History and Heritage Command website at http://www.history.navy.mil under "research" "Histories" "Naval Aviation Histories" "Aviation Insignia" "Naval Aviation Squadron Lineage by Community". The document name is "Fighter Squadron Lineage" and can be found at the following URL http://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/naval-aviation-history/insignias/naval-aviation-squadron-lineage-by-community/fighter-squadron-lineage.html All squadrons are listed in numerical order with (1st), (2nd), (3rd) etc... appended where applicable. Any WP::MOS aside, the official listing of squadrons published by the U.S. Navy is the definitive and correct method to use when identifying U. S. Navy aircraft squadrons. The use of (1st), (2nd) etc... when the same designation was used multiple times is the correct method of differentiating between the squadrons. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:CAPT_USN(ret)&action=edit&section=2#

Please make a user page[edit]

It looks as though you will be a useful contributor here. You've got a user name already. Now you really should make a user page. Most of them are very brief. Some are just a few words. Some, like mine, are ridiculously long and detailed. It helps to have one, since otherwise your user name shows up in red, and makes people wonder about your identity. Also, don't forget to sign your talk page posts with four tildes, like this: ~~~~. It automatically produces this: Lou Sander (talk) 05:20, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

June 2016[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "CAPT USN(ret)", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is a title and as such does not identify an individual user. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 00:22, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think all you would need to do is add something to the end of your username, even if just a series of numbers, that indicates only you are using it. 331dot (talk) 00:24, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, CAPT USN(ret).
