COI warning[edit]

Declaring your COI does not mean that you are allowed to add materials that promote it. Like every other editor with a significant COI, you should make suggestions in the Talk pages of articles and allow editors who don't have a COI to evaluate and possibly carry them out. It has been suggested there that your edits have been 'primarily or exclusively promotional.' "..he or she has made edits to many articles that (a) add only references to material published by his or her employer without adding any new text or (b) awkwardly wedge in brief quotes from material published by his or her employer." Hello, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that I was violating any standards by adding primary references that expanded on points if I had declared a COI. I'll definitely address this issue. Can you please let me know how I would be able to make suggestions on talk pages? Thank you. Cf2022
You can use the request edit template on the Talk page of each article. Alternatively, you can also make suggestions, lodge requests, and raise questions on Talk pages without using that template.
Additionally, if you're editing while logged out to continue these activities then you need to stop immediately. Using other accounts - "sockpuppets" - is generally not permitted, especially when it's clearly being done in bad faith and you'd likely be blocked from editing if this continues. Yes, you're 100% correct. I made the changes before I received the COI notice (since I was had logged out of my account). I am in the process of deleting/undoing everything I added today. Again, my sincerest apologies, I stopped as soon as I read your messages. Cf2022 (talk)

Thank you so much for the information. From now on I will only add contributions through the request edit template. If you need help deleting any of the additions I've made until now, I'm happy to delete everything and then resubmit through the request edit template. Do you remember if you've made these kind of edits under any other accounts? I'm not asking to get you into trouble - the primary reason why we block editors is to stop them from disrupting the project and you've already promised to stop so blocking you wouldn't do any good - but to see if there is any other clean up that needs to be done.
If you are employed by the university and editing Wikipedia is part of your job responsibilities, you also need to read through our policy on paid editing; it's stronger and more serious than our conflict-of-interest policy with a non-negotiable requirement that you disclose your relationship with your employer. This is my first account. I've never made any other edits. Wikipedia is such a great tool, and I wouldn't want to do anything that invalidates the work editors like you are doing to make sure this remains a useful resource for everyone. I appreciate that you let me know about the issue. I just really didn't know that I was in violation. I thought disclosure was the only requirement. I will definitely read the policies you have sent me. And, from now on, I will only request edits (never edit anything directly myself) related to my institution. Proper template for references on talk pages[edit]

Thanks for your contributions, and use of the request edit to help ensure that proposed edits are reviewed to make sure they are neutral. One tiny nit, when you add a reference to a talk page, it will automatically appear at the bottom of the page. While this makes sense in an article, it doesn't make sense on a talk page. It may not look like a problem when you initially add the reference because it appears immediately below your post, but if others had additional sections to the talk page, the reference will appear at the bottom of the page, not at the bottom of the section.

The good news is there is a simple solution. We have a template {{reflist-talk}} which is designed for this purpose. You may note I've used this in some recent edits of yours. Could you make sure to use it in future edits?--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:31, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

Hi, you seem to have access to a rather large legal library. Is there anything in there about eligibility to and more importantly disqualification from the presidential office (under the Article I process and the 14th Amendement? I have [normal newspapers] sources saying these sections are open to some debate due to some legalese distinctions). See United_States_presidential_eligibility_legislation#Background. coi[edit]

This is about your coi with Boston University, as came to attention for Draft:Pina Lahev, a article to which you contributed. In declining that article as not yet notable, I wrote:


I note a coi was declared, but it was a paid coi, and it did not make ful disclosure according to our rules. There were three separate individuals involved in writing this, all from her university. This could mean 3 separate employees of the university, or an outside agency the University has hired, or several outside agencies. This needs to specified. .

The usual advice for someone who is not yet notable, is to try again, once her second book is published, and had gotten substantial reviews in third-party published independent reliable sources, not press releases, blurbs, blogs, Amazon, or Goodreads.

For coi editors, the advice is different: Boston University should stop trying to publicize their faculty authors by writing articles about them in WP. It is almost impossible for PR people at a university or publisher to write a satisfactory article. If she is really notable, someone without coi will write an article about her.

I also point out to the coi editors, that their participation in this work lends a degree of doubt about all articles on Boston University faculty, and I advise them to make sure there are coi statements added for all other articles that may have been affected. I --and other reviewers--are very likely to check them. I see they have in fact declared some other articles, and I shall now check them to see that they do not resort to the hyperbola used here, in claiming authorship of books for which the person was not the author, and including prizes from their own institution.

Sometimes I will try to fix such articles, as I started fixing that one. But if there's a sustained PR campaign, I would be much more inclined to recommend deletion of the articles, for I do not see why I or any volunteer should devote our efforts to material that someone else is being paid to write.

And, on your user page, you must put a list of every coi article to which you have contributed. I see that despite previous warnings you have not yet done so. Do it immediately.

You may also wish to consider the experience of a friend of mine here, who a number of years ago decided to assign to his class the writing of bios for the other faculty in his department. When some of the bios were chanllenged and removed with a public disscussion that concluded with not notable, his colleagues, understandably enough, got quite angry. I'm a librarian myself, and I would never attempt such a project. Please at least consider the consequences of a similar occurrence. DGG ( talk ) 22:52, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DGG, I don't think I've ever been told to list of drafts to which I've contributed to. I'm happy to do this, but would you be able to show me how to add such a list to my user page? I always want to comply with Wikipedia's rules, and I sincerely apologize if there are any coi disclosure issues. I was previously told that I would be able to continue editing as long as all edits were made as requests. Unless you have any objections, I plan to edit some of the material you have in usweer sandboxes, and move it to mainspace. I understand fully why you have not moved it, considering previous comments about coi, but some of these people are very highly notable and should have articles.
