[edit]Hello, I'm Leonidlednev. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person, Kenneth Branagh, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Leonidlednev (T, C, L) 16:49, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Seriously, Leonidlednev? Aside from the Manual of Style, and the fact that the lede summarises the body and doesn't actually need to be cited, did you even read the article? The very next sentence states the subject was born in Belfast! That's repeated in the infobox, and repeated again and referenced in the 'Early life and education' section. Belfast (film) is partly autobiographical! Please WP:DONTBITE the newbies! BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 17:09, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for that. I wasn’t going to reply to him as it seems ludicrous that you can’t draw form the multiple other sources in the articles that he is in fact from Northern Ireland, hence the reason i didn’t directly cite. Ciaran2608 (talk) 17:12, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- The article clearly states that he was born in Belfast, as a cited fact. It also states that he is a British actor, as he is most commonly described in reliable sources from around the English speaking world. The two aren’t in conflict, and those terms are long-standing ones in the article that would only be reviewed if there were convincing evidence that a majority of reliable sources had taken to describing Branagh differently. It isn’t open to WP editors to try and argue their way to a descriptor that isn’t drawn directly from the reliable sources, as per WP:OR and WP:SYNTH. I hope that this is helpful. You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Kenneth Branagh. I could cite you for edit warring also, but that last edit, that's just vandalism--removing two paragraphs from the lead. Drmies (talk) 18:30, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

. Widr (talk) 19:27, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Widr, this indefinte block seems unneccessarily harsh. Yes, Ciaran2608 engaged in vandalism (I'm assuming, rather than it being a mistake), but they are an inexperienced editor and were subject to provocation on the article in question, Kenneth Brannagh. In simple terms, there is a long-standing convention that subjects of BLPs who are from Northern Ireland are described as just that - "from Northern Ireland", or "is a (profession) from Northern Ireland". This is contained in WP:IMOS, and was even confirmed by an admin, Canterbury Tail, on the talk page while the issue was active. We were still reverted by someone somewhat perversely claiming that "Northern Irish" was unsourced (though "born in Belfast" was fine?) and that describing the subject as "British" was somehow less contentious. Should blanking have happened? No. Will Ciaran2608 learn from this? Hopefully. Can I propose you change the block to something like 48 or 72 hours or something, with the option of an indefinite block if there's a re-occurrance? BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 13:19, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Counterpoint. Canterbury Tail talk 13:24, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I'd just seen the blanking. My point still stands. There was discussion, I'd pointed to the instruction at WP:IMOS and the usual practice for BLPs on the talk page, that apparently carried no weight whatsover and Ciaran got reverted again. Obviously he'd need to agree to follow the rules, but I still think he deserves a second chance. YMMV. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 15:27, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Indef does not mean permanent. They just need to agree to talk and discuss/get consensus for edits and I'm sure that they can be unblocked if believed. Canterbury Tail talk 16:01, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
