Minor changes

[edit]

Why is it such a big deal to make changes to Wikipedia ? I've added some details on names on some historical data that improves on the details Conantheblacksmith (talk) 19:09, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

February 2022

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm SovalValtos. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Littlehampton, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 15:44, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Wikipedia

[edit]

You've been an occasional editor on Wikipedia for some time. I saw that you were today asking for help on IRC channel #wikipedia-en-help. When I went to look at your talk page and some of your contributions, I found that you have been trying to make helpful edits (clearly not vandalism) but you were not following policy.

  • Minor edits - on Wikipedia a minor edit is really minor: fixing a word spelling or adjusting a small layout error. You've been marking edits as minor that are not what we consider minor edits. My advice is to never mark an edit as minor for now; maybe, when you know better, you can use the flag. Misuse of the flag as you've been doing is what makes the flag fairly useless.
  • Unsourced changes - some of the other editors have already warned you about making these unsourced changes have reverted them.
  • Adding entries to lists - At Conan you added an entry with no page to link to. The protocol for disambiguation pages is that every entry must link to a page, though sometimes the blue link is in the description rather than the main entry. Similarly at Aftab Khan.

Yes, these seem like extra hoops to jump through, you're just trying to add useful information. But information that we cannot verify through published sources does not belong on Wikipedia. Please be sure to provide sources with your future edits. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 17:05, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
