Appology

I wanted to appologise for not informing you on your talk page about my post at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Family_surname_projects, you have been actively involved in the debates at both the Wikiproject and the article talk page, it was only good manners that I should have informed you, and I'm sorry I didn't.

BTW, I saw that you have an interest in the name Cruwys. Just out of curiosity, is there any connection to the Welsh Crwys? I used to live on Crwys Road in Cathays in Cardiff and the similarity of the names struck me. Alun (talk) 07:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest. Crwys in Welsh simply means "cross". Cruwys also means cross but the name probably has its origins in Flanders where there is a place called Cruys or Kruis. Crwys has not to my knowledge been used as a surname in Wales. There are a few Cruwyses in Wales but they all moved there from Devon. Dahliarose (talk) 09:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi again. I'm really angry with this guy Andrew now. I've had another look at what he wrote on the noticeboard. It's little more than an attack against us. He doesn't seem to be able to address the substantive points we are making. I can't make out if he is being deliberately obtuse because he has some sort of agenda, or if he really is that blind to what he is doing. Either way I'm very angry. He's not interested in the integrity of the project here, he's only interested in pushing his own point of view. I've never started a user RfC before, but if this goes on I'll seriously think about starting one. I have tried reasoning with him. Next it's mediation, finally I'll start an RfC. But I'm really really angry at present. I have email enabled on my acount if you feel like emailing me. Cheers. Alun (talk) 17:24, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, because of your interest in grammar schools I wonder if you would be interested in helping source this school which is up for AfD? I have cleaned out a lot of website material but real life is restricting how much time I can give it. TerriersFan (talk) 02:48, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

WP:WPSCH

Did you consider the intent of the revision of the WP:WPSCH guidelines? The edit was intended to address a contradiction. Could a person find this as constradictory? Yes. If the answer is yes, then to make Wikipedia more efficient and productive it only makes sense to clarify. I am not sure how duplicate information is harmful in this case. In fact, duplicate information can be found on project pages across Wikipedia. -- Lucas20 (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

In my edits, more than "very few" schools are providing notable faculty and current students. I understand why you see the bullet as necessary, I am just saying that it can be confusing to people if they something that says lists are ok and then see something that says no lists. -- Lucas20 (talk) 14:54, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I listed some examples, but I think a larger point is why not clarify? -- Lucas20 (talk) 16:41, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

FamilyTreeDNA major edit - remove "ad" box

Hi, Dahliarose. I did a major edit of FamilyTreeDNA if you could check it and see if it is worthwhile to remove the "ad" box at the top would be great. I'm new here so I didn't remove it myself but thought should get a 2nd opinion. Couldn't post to "Astronaut" who first added the box. regards -- Zikaron (talk) 07:29, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Generic secondary

Hi, Dahliarose High school is, as you stated, a term used mostly in the US and in most cases secondary school would be the term used elsewhere. In the case of the Norwegian "videregående skole/vgs" it is however not that simple. "Secondary school" normally applies to the second half of compulsory education - in the Norwegian case the "ungdomsskole". The vgs is a tertiary and voluntary level of education. I've seen "high school" used by a number of these schools when translating their own names into English. It's not simply a question of anti-anglocentrism as referred to above, but rather of covering an educational model that differs from the British one. I don't think there is such a thing as a standard translation of vgs. Literally it would be something like "further school" or "advanced school", but for now I suggest the use of "upper secondary" when describing these schools. Any views?

Lidmann (talk) 23:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Changed Oslo and Trondheim to upper secondary for now. US high schools do indeed start a year earlier than a vgs does. (provided I've understood it correctly =)) Wikipedia redirects upper secondary to high school, though. I agree with you that high school doesn't quite cover it, but I still feel it's better than secondary as secondary commonly denotes compulsory ed. I'll see if I can't find a Norwegian dept of education document in English to see how they translate it.

Greetings

Hello Dahliarose: I found your message on the talk page of the article entitled 'High School of Peking University'. Actually I used to be a student in that school (graduating ceremony on June 18th 2009), and I'm wondering if I can begin to make my first contribution to wikipedia by enriching the article concerning that school. However, as a rookie I have encountered difficulties organizing and composing it (...i.e., where and how to start), so I would just appreciate it if you could email me at davidw017 AT hotmail.com to discuss further about this! By the way English is my second language so please forgive me about these possible grammar mistakes.

Davidw017 (talk) 18:05, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Some progress has been made on the article of High School of Peking University, could you please check out if that part of writing is okay?

Davidw017 (talk) 18:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi! You might be interested in the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Village School (Great Neck, New York) (2nd nomination). Thank you. Alchaenist (talk) 14:15, 9 July 2009 (UTC) (Using {{Please see}})}

Hi Dahliarose/Archive 2 - 2009-2011! There appears to be a discrepancy between the information in The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre article which you have contributed to or edited. The November 2008 Ofsted report and the article may not be referring to the same schools. Moreover, in an article about Heathfield School, Wolverley it is claimed that it merged with Bewdley. However, a website exists for a Heathfield school in Wolverly about an independent school on which there exists very little verifiable online information. There is clearly some confusion concerning these two schools and their affiliation. If you can help with these issues please see Talk:The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, improve the article if you can, and leave any comments there.--Kudpung (talk) 16:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Jessica

User:Jimsteele9999 has been asserting that he is not Jessica Liao. The sock investigation report was updated to reflect these assertions and unspecified evidence in e-mail to User:Steven Zhang.

If you're sure that the diffs will support a claim of identical wording, then you might choose to contact Steven Zhang with further concerns. For myself, I expect it to ultimately be obvious, and I'm willing to wait for that outcome. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello Dahliarose,

You seem to be late for the class, so to speak. The whole issue has been cleared up. I guess some people aren't convinced, and that's fine with me, because no one has ever mistaken people who frequent the internet compulsively with like-minded folk who eschew suspicions. I would appreciate it if your efforts were placed in helping making pages regarding education better. I see you have some experience in that area, as do I, so perhaps we can make articles with good quality. I offer this suggestion rather than wasting your time looking for minute phrases that two (or more) posters have in common. And I deleted that section in special education "discussion" page because it was insulting, and from what I understand that's not what belongs on those pages. The intent, as I understand it (and this is tenuous I'll admit) is to offer suggestions to make the article better. So, no, it wasn't because I "didn't like" what was posted, it was that it was posted by someone with a history of personal attacks, who chose the space as an opportunity to give his ill-advised opinion on special education students. This particular topic is not one that is presented well in wikipedia, and I hope to edit it and see others be constructive as we go along. The page on resource rooms is a long way coming, as it had no place in the "special schools" section of special education. Doing such undermines the concept of inclusion as it is presented in this encyclopedia. Jim Steele (talk) 23:44, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

special education and other things

Hi Dahliarose my lst contribution to the discussion on the "special education" talk page was to indicate the US editors that we have moved on from Warnock, and that it is now possible to become recognised in the UK as being disabled based on an underlying cognitive cause of dyslexia such as Auditory processing disorder. Trying to demonstrate that these issues do not just exist in schools but also colleges, universities, and in the work place. International research is improving our ability to diagnose the medical or cognitive issues which can cause man made problems such as the dyslexia symptom, which will hopefully provide a better understanding of the support individual actually require. dolfrog (talk) 14:59, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

A new research project i need to delve into regarding motor neuron disease (mnd) has appeared in my real life. Currently I know next to nothing about NMD so i will be busy reading up on this very complex condition and the politics which surround it. So I will taking a break from serious wiki editing for a few weeks dolfrog (talk) 20:30, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Schools

Hi Dahliarose. This is a generic message so please bear with me if you are already aware of the situation. In early September changes were made to an infobox template that affected the display of hundreds of school crests/logos in the UK schools infobox. This is now being taken care of and you may find the discussions on this page interesting: Template talk:Infobox UK school, do however leave a message here or here if you come across any that are still not displaying correctly.
If you are still actively interested in schools and would like to help out on school pages and school templates, if you a re not already a member you may wish to consider joining the WP:WPSCHOOLS project where you can also stay abreast of developments by adding its talk page to your watchlist. Happy editing!--Kudpung (talk) 03:19, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Blocking and unblocking

Hello,

You may note that you were blocked recently on grounds of sock puppetry. However this block has now been lifted as it has become apparent that the evidence which led to your block was a false positive. This block hence does not reflect on you as an editor, and you will be very much welcome again at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools should you ever choose to return. CT Cooper · talk 14:18, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

How very odd! I haven't had time to do much on Wikipedia for a while and I hadn't noticed this had happened. Should I not have been notified that I'd been blocked? It's lucky that I hadn't tried to do any editing. Anyway thanks for letting me know and for sorting it out. Do you have a link to the page where the case was investigated? I'm curious as to how such a mistake could have arisen. Dahliarose (talk) 14:28, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
I will respond to you via e-mail. CT Cooper · talk 17:14, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting this out for me. For the record I thought I would just comment here that a sock puppet had set up an account using my user name on the Simple English Wikipedia which resulted in the block. This account has now been usurped and I have successfully claimed my user name on the Simple English Wikipedia. I have also set up a single-user log-in (SUL) for my various Wiki accounts to ensure that no one else will be able to impersonate me in the future. Dahliarose (talk) 18:45, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Cfd request

In the recent cfd on alumni, you moved from oppose to support. The discussion appears to me to have reached a conclusion but no-one is closing it. It might be that your 'support' looks more like 'oppose' at first glance, so I wondered if you might be prepared to make your views more overt, eg by striking the 'support' and/or adding a signature to the last bit. Occuli (talk) 10:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I was going to put a strikethrough in the word oppose but couldn't find any way to do this. Do you know how it can be done? Dahliarose (talk) 11:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Use <s></s>. CT Cooper · talk 12:14, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes; as CT Cooper says. Strikethrough used to be obvious in the default edit screen but then moved somewhere out of the way. Occuli (talk) 22:30, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Many thanks. I've sorted it out now. I did look through all the editing instructions and couldn't find the correct code. I can remember some html but not everything! Dahliarose (talk) 22:38, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

WP Schools in the Signpost

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject Schools for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Survey

Hi Dahliarose!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you!
