Information icon Hello, I'm Canterbury Tail. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. August 2020[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Thine Be the Glory. Wikipedia is not a collection of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links may include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 15:50, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I came to say the same. Better stop if you want to avoid disappointment. I reverted three that were not appropriate, and don't need more such work (checking and reverting) nor do I want to add to your frustration. Example: Sandström composed a very specific music, - what you added had NOTHING to do with his work, - clutter at best, probably spam. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many apologies - I will cease to add links for now and rethink whether my future contributions are appropriate. Sorry for any frustration I have caused you in the meantime. --DavidSimkins 15:55, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
There are many things missing, if you have extra time. I wasn't frustrated yet, but would have been If you hadn't listened. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:09, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have been giving some more thought to the external links I've been putting up. hymnswithoutwords.com is a free encyclopedic resource for churches and congregations around the world providing professionally recorded free downloads of hymns and carols for use in church services. They are recorded without words and suitable for congregational singing. There is no charge for people listening to the music included in these links. I provided the links as a public service for people who want to listen to the music described in the article. The Sandström was a misjudgement and I need to be more careful about which pages I put the links on, but for the most part, are they acceptable additions to place on the hymn pages? Thank you for taking the time to consider this situation and answer my question, I look forward to hearing your answer. DavidSimkins (talk) 08:37, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My personal view is - example "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen" - that readers addressed are readers who want to know about history and meaning, not potential performers, who will probably have other means to access the site. Those who are interested: what should they think about a mispelled title, and a pretty picture that detracts? - You may want to talk to others who reverted you, - just click on "talk" behind their user name. You could also go to projects linked on a hymn article's talk page. I'd start for one hymn, and ask one person, to get more feeling for it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:00, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
